Winter 2023 Production Photos
Picture below shows setting of color at the head press operator color station with the digital ink keys for the covers. Note the graph on top of the current ink level and at the bottom is the actual buttons that open and close the ink keys for the particular colors cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.
Pictures below show the print units black, cyan, magenta, yellow. In order from top to bottom of each photo is the ink roller train which spreads out the ink evenly over the rollers and eventually transferring to the print plate (silver colored with the ink color). This plate transfers the ink image to a rubber blanket which is backwards and then the blanket transfers it to the paper at the very bottom of each photo. You can see it prints Black first, Cyan second, Magenta third, and Yellow last. It runs between 20,000-60,000 impressions per hour so it is just a blur when it runs thru the press.
Pictures of the covers below show the paper coming out of the dryer oven on the right then turning on the turn bars.
Closer photo but little different angle. The scanning eyes (not visible) for registration would be located just after to the bottom left of the photo.
Below are coating towers to put coatings on covers as needed.
More turn bars and electronics and air hoses guiding the web and checking registration.
Video below showing speed of paper going thru the press and using turn bars to fold the 4 page signature for the Minnesota Family Winter 2023 cover.
