Wins are everywhere, you just need to know where to look

I start every client call with the same topic, small wins that occurred since we last spoke (plus every class I teach as I look for volunteers to share their wins with the groups).
The reason for doing this is two fold
A bonus third reason, and this is from my personal experience, it makes the job fun! It helps build that confidence you need to attain the goals that the future version of yourself will attain.
Today’s article will focus on the small wins by taking it one step farther, breaking them down into different sections so you can start spotting them throughout the week (and celebrating as well).
Info wins
Every get off a cold call and think it was a failure because you didn’t set a meeting? I know I have, many times over throughout my career. Then the self talk starts with “I did a terrible pitch”, “I rushed it”, etc.
But you know what also happened on that call? You confirmed the number goes to the person you want to speak with.
You learned they are in the office on that particular day and maybe through the course of a conversation (because every call should have a goal of sparking a conversation, not the binary mindset of meeting or bust), you found out they are expanding next year.
The point is, every interaction with a prospect is an opportunity to win with even a little bit of information gathered. Recruitment is a long game, relationships take time, and each piece of information helps move you closer to that goal.
Effort wins
Didn’t feel up to making 30 dials on particular day, but still made 15, well that is a win.
Didn’t feel like sending that last outreach email, or make that call asking for feedback, or delivering bad news to a candidate who didn’t get the job and yet you still did it. Another effort win.

The point is, you are not a robot and not every day you will be at your best. When that happens you have to give yourself grace because performing at 60%, when you are feeling 60%, is a 100% effort type of day.
Revenue wins
This is the most obvious one, but one that needs to be pointed out. Winning in this business should be celebrated with each and every placement you make. You are impacting the lives of the person looking for a job, the hiring manager, the company, and the countless other people that occur because of the ripple effect.
Do not make the mistake I made in which I let the larger goal effect my enjoyment of the moment of winning i.e. thinking “Well this is only one placement and I need another 29 placements to hit my goal”. That type of mindset leads you to brush off your wins and, if you keep it up, leads to burnout and makes the journey a very lonely and painful one.
That is it for this week and I hope these 3 lenses to view your week helps make the journey to growing your business more enjoyable.
To put this in practice, I would recommend at the end of each week to review your activity and write down the small wins that occurred. Having a journal is a great thing to look back on and review just how far you have come.
Plus you can, if you do look to add to your business, share this journal with your future hires. Letting them see your struggles, small wins, etc. will allow them to give themselves some grace when they do inevitably struggle.
