Winning In The Workplace

Winning In The Workplace

Welcome back to another edition of The Culture Junky LinkedIn Exclusive series. We’re capping off another week here and moving our way through June faster than I can keep up with. Fortunately, it seems like the weather is finally cooperating and with a bit of lucky we should be able to enjoy some time out in the sun this weekend.

But now, right now, we need to still be locked in to the rest of this day before we shift into that sort of weekend mode. We’re almost ready to flip the switch and enjoy some R & R, but we’re not quite there yet.

While we’re still in that regular work-week mode and we’re hitting it hard I wanted to talk about winning in business.

The obvious example of ‘winning’ in business comes from success. Whether that’s making a lot of sales or signing up a ton of new clients. Usually there’s some sort of financial success there with most industries, in other cases ‘winning’ in business could be making a profound impact on someone and really helping a client out with a problem if you’re in a field that isn’t very sales-driven.

But what about winning in the workplace? What does winning look like to a leader with their own team?

The fact of the matter is, if you want to ‘win’ out there in the world when it comes to business. Then you also have to win on the flip side, internally within your own team. You have to win at work as well.

So what does that winning within your team look like?

Here’s a couple metrics that can be used to measure what ‘winning’ looks like within your culture as a leader.

- Low turnover of employees

- Team members willingly going above and beyond to embody that “all for one & one for all” mindset

- A healthy level of competitiveness that brings your team members together to push one another, while also making sure that they’re helping one another.

- And the last one, my favorite one, when you and your team members are all happy at work and enjoying the work you do.

Now of course these aren’t all of the ways to measure what success looks like from team perspective, but the fact of the matter is that in order to win over clients, to take over your industry and become one of the most successful teams out there, you have to make sure that you’re putting as much effort into winning within your culture, as you do winning over clients.

Becoming the best company in your field is only possible when you’re winning within your culture, and everyone on your team is impacted by that winning culture. While we set our sights out on winning over clients and recruiting new people, sometimes all it takes to jump to the next level is a look in.

Give that some thought and have a great rest of the week. I’ll see you Monday for another Monday Morning Culture Shock.
