A Winning Way to Start Your Day

A Winning Way to Start Your Day

Those who have studied the ultra-successful have noted two things – they have set goals that they review regularly and they have an established morning routine. Practicing a morning routine allows you to nurture your mind, body and spirit before you engage with the world. It sets the tone for your day and positions you for success. There is no one size fits all morning routine. You need to experiment to figure out which elements in what time frame best serve you. For the busy professional, ideally your morning routine should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. I would suggest limiting it to no more than 6 practices. This routine is supposed to support your personal development, not overwhelm you. Your morning routine could include 5 or 6 of the following activities or something things that are meaningful to you:

?

Prayer/Meditation/Gratitude – Spend a few minutes of quiet time connecting with a higher power. Study a passage of scripture or listen to a guided meditation. Reflect on the things for which you are thankful. Receive guidance for the day.

Drink Water – After a night of sleeping, we are dehydrated. Immediately repleting our water improves the condition of our hair and skin, boosts our metabolism and immune system and increases our energy.

Exercise – Starting your day with movement boosts your energy and emotional well-being. Exercise helps you think better and improves your concentration. Revving up your metabolism early helps you burn calories more efficiently and supports healthy weight maintenance.

Affirmations – Begin your day speaking positivity and encouragement over your life. Affirming words help you re-program your thoughts about yourself. You become your biggest cheerleader. As you feed your mind positivity, it will begin to believe what you tell it, act upon it and eventually manifest it as your reality.

Reading – Reading is one of the greatest personal development tools there is. Learning from the experts allows you to quickly acquire the knowledge, ideas and strategies you need to take your life to the next level.?

Review Your Goals – Looking at and meditating on your goals daily helps to keep them more tangible and top of mind. It helps you to remember the big picture you have for your life and live in a more purpose-driven, mission-driven way.

Journaling – Writing helps you organize your thoughts. You can journal about the things for which you are grateful, proud of and the results you are committed to achieving. Having a record of your thoughts allows you to go back and see your growth or persistent areas of challenge that may require a new strategy to overcome.

Visualization – Use the power of your imagination to see yourself achieving a big goal. See it in vivid color. How does it make you feel? Allow it to inspire you to keep working.

Set Your Intention – List the top 3 things you want to accomplish. Decide how you wish to engage with the world. Commit to being the thermostat in your life. You set the temperature rather than having your feelings, emotions and actions be responsive to the words and behaviors of others.

Listen to a Motivational Message or Podcast – Learning from others is our short-cut to success. Hearing the stories of those who are where you wish to be inspires and motivates you to take action.
