Backdrop
One of the CXOs, reached out to us to conduct team building program for their team based in India. She had outlined certain areas that need to be addressed during this program. On speaking with the HR head, got more clarity on the problem statement, the desired outcomes and the expectations during the program.
Preparation:
Concept note was shared based on these insights. Once the concept note was occupied by the client, we proposed some data from the recent surveys and also a ‘focus group discussion’ with different groups to understand their individual learning need, challenges and expectations.
These interactions give us a clear indication that more than the learnings, what the stakeholders were seeking was the road map and certain actionable which could be defined as the ‘Winning Ways’.

Since the venue was known to us, we had to go with the activities that would require less of movement, yet would be engaging, participative and help derive the desired outcomes. So we decided to go with the signature activities that we use in our certification.
Within got into customising the activities to suit specific needs of this group in terms of outcomes and expectations.
The session was designed such that it would encourage dialogue between the stakeholders nudging the group towards certain actions which could be taken individually, as the team and as an organization.
?Execution:
We began the session with our ‘MoodOMeter’ to gauge the mood of the group and individual. Thankfully due to the mindful client contracting, the group was quite upbeat about this workshop.
The India head set the context for this program. Post that we took them through the desired outcomes and Co created the ways of working.
Time machine worked very well as an energiser and as an ice breaker. It created the energy and also helped build rapport amongst the group.
We introduced the snakes and ladder which was created keeping the desire outcomes, certain behaviours that emerged during focus group discussion and the findings of the survey that was conducted internally. This activity helped the group to understand the themes better.
This created the divergence at individual, small group and then finally the large group around behaviours and actions. From the data that was collated during this activity, each converged on critical aspects as small group and started working on it during the next activity which was the deck of cards.
The ‘Deck of cards’ activity was introduced to the group. The instructions had to be very clear for this activity so that the action points would emerge clearly. Here I introduced a twist around the suites which we do not normally use during certification (a blend of circle of concern, influence and control plus actions for Me, We ?& Us)
each team then put up their deck on the sticky wall which was followed by large group discussion around the wisdom that was harvested.
The closure was done by each individual picking up action points in the form of behaviours that they would exhibit as winning ways.

What worked:
Right from the start, I kept the clients’ expectations, asks and requirements as the focal point.
Doing diagnosis with all the stakeholders and not confining it only to the CXOs.
Having a design that addressed not only the organization needs but also took care of individual needs.
Having a design that created a safe sharing environment, that facilitated encouraged every voice to be heard.
Frequent checking with not only the client sponsor but also with the participant groups as the workshop progressed and making course corrections as required.
Being flexible around the design and not being attached to any activity or outcome.
Being aware of the energy flowing in the room and channelizing it.
?Learnings for me:
As always I feel, the program could have been done better do the client was absolutely happy about the outcome and the way the programme was executed.
