Winning in Today's World Means...

What do you miss the most about your weekends these days? The sports-filled activities seem like a distant memory but I know they will come back. So, too, will the economy, businesses and jobs.

Recently, I thought about all the soccer games we attended to watch my son play and something popped into my head that I think is applicable to today.

Back when my son was playing soccer, I would tell him that it was important to take as many shots as possible to increase his probabilities of scoring a goal. I would also tell him that if he took no shots, he would definitely not score. Needless to say, taking action means you have to think strategically and take chances others will not.

Reflecting on what is happening today, I realized just how much this is true for those of us who are looking for new business opportunities, ideas, products, and partners. To move towards our goal, we must not only keep trying over and over again until we get the results we want but we also have to adapt to changing circumstances and change tactics to score the winning goal.

I am certain that post COVID-19, there will be a birth of new industries and companies because our desire to innovate and lift people up has not gone away, if anything, it has been recharged and reactivated. We can and should build something better.

So, I ask you: It’s half time. Are you winning yet? Are you making the right moves to score your goal? If not, commit to the path that will see you triumph even if it means changing your tactics.

I couldn't agree more, Luis. In my experience, our results are 10% or less what happens and 90% or more how we CHOOSE to respond.

I totally dig your article Luis. Persistence, perseverance, staying determined and committed, and adapting along the way, means we get to learn, improve, innovate and disrupt (when required). These are all so integral to achieving success in whatever our endeavors may be. Whether we like it or not, want it or not, change is inevitable, so we may as well play the game and enjoy it.

I most definitely agree and love your analogy. I can say without a doubt, this whole thing has caused me to discover that I have not been taking all the shots I could have been. No more though. It's the dawn of a new day. Great article Luis.

If we don’t take any shots we have zero chance of scoring. So true, Luis R. Farias! Thanks for the mention.
