The Winning Line - Be memorable, use visuals! - Issue 018

Welcome to this week’s edition of our newsletter, packed with top tips, advice, and the latest insights to help you win more work through tenders.

This week saw the return of a monthly networking group I attend in Bedford. We don't meet in August so to kick the group back off they run a Prop Challenge in September. It brings a different energy to the room and people's pitches are elevated by some sort of visual aid.

The Prop Challenge was 'bring something in that represents you and what you do'.

The meeting was high energy and most importantly memorable. I can remember what each member had as their prop and also how that propped linked with their pitch.

It made me think of how often we are given permission in the client tender documents to add visuals, graphics, images into our Bid and Proposal responses but often stick with text, pages and pages of text. Or a few screenshots/graphics not specific to the pitch/points we are trying to make.

I'm a huge advocate of being wary of style over substance. Things that look pretty but have no value to a client don't win, but equally things that focus too much on just being compliant/answering the question in the given word count with no elevation - also don't win.

We want our bids to be memorable, we want graphics to mean something - to add value to the response, when someone sees a graphic within seconds they need to understand it, get why it's there and what point it is trying to make.

A good picture paints a thousand words - handy when you are trying to beat a tight word count

So my advice this week is to remember the value of adding clever, well thought out, impactful graphics and visuals to your bid and proposal responses.

Make them simple to understand, make them relevant and make them do the heavy lifting in making your bid response stand out and be memorable.

If you would like some advice on what graphics/infographics you can create for your business/offering to add value to your responses - I'd be happy to help.

In The Bid Club we will be running two Weekly Q&A sessions where you can drop in ask questions on current bids you are working on, topics you need more clarity on or tender process queries you want to double check with us.

This is in addition to a monthly CPD/Training session and topics will include design/graphics as well as more complex areas such as Social Value, Environment, Data Protection, Procurement Act and Technical Writing.

For more information, let me know and I'll add you to our Launch Waitlist.
