Winning Life's Coin Toss

Winning Life's Coin Toss

Social media is a wonderful thing. People will ask you questions that challenge your assumptions, opinions and beliefs in ways they might not ever consider doing face to face. It’s refreshing and invigorating.

Being challenged to define your purpose and values is also a wonderful thing. Recently I was asked by a social media connection why I’m so willing to help others when often it seems this is such a rare thing in our society. This is the answer I gave them and then some.

I believe it is the purpose of each of us, regardless of our circumstance or position in life, to find within ourselves, and each other, that thing which makes us unique in helping others.

We all have our strengths, abilities and gifts that we may contribute to society and give to others, the goal being to make this life a better, more pleasant, and hopefully more understandable journey.

We all have our weaknesses and those things we struggle with and need help to overcome or see ourselves through. For each strength there is a weakness, and an empty space, which yearns to be filled and healed, whether it be in our self or in others.

If we open ourselves up to the fact that we each have a gift that is meant to be shared with someone else at just the right moment we then find our true calling. It's what I refer to as finding your Smile.

Think of it like two magnets each drawn towards the other in a darkened room.  Regardless of their awareness of the existence of the other, they are pulled together by some unseen natural power. When the two come together and form a bond it may very well seem like magic.

This bond can be so dynamic and powerful that it defies understanding and logic and even overcomes unbelievable odds. At other times it can appear as seemingly simple as a word spoken in kindness and a caring attitude towards a stranger, but a word and action that are needed, none the less, at just the right moment.

Regardless of the gravity or seemingly insignificant circumstances each is as powerful and as important as the other. The beauty of it all is that this magic happens only when we allow it. Because, in truth, we control it. The important thing is the more we open our hearts and minds up to it and allow ourselves to participate, the more we experience it around us.  This is when I believe a person truly finds their Smile.

When people allow themselves to participate in their true potential and ability, and follow a path of looking outward towards helping others for reasons other than material gain, power and control, they begin to find and experience the joy and peace of their true calling in life.

It’s important that each person seek out their own true calling in life. This is when we discover our potential and can begin to exercise our ability to share and provide for one another in a positive and meaningful way. This isn’t a one size fits all product. It’s a uniquely personal journey of discovery.

You may share strengths, customs, beliefs and abilities with others who feel like you do, but no one can or ever will take the place of you. Your calling is yours. Discover it and own it. It’s your gift, your inheritance and your legacy all wrapped in one thing. That one thing is you.

Be an encouragement to yourself and others by following the path to your Smile. When you do you will find your goals are in reach by helping others achieve theirs in your own caring and positive way.

I've always had an outer Smile, my family refers to me as "Pollyanna"! But my resent discovery of my "inner" smile is where God wants me to live. Uncovering my full potential in this journey called LIFE. Thanks for you encouraging words!
