One of the terrifying things is happening this year.
The massive layoff has created a lot of tension in the job market.
There's currently an uproar in competition for the available slots in every company.
Those affected by the layoff are becoming very anxious each day.
There're bills to pay, so there's a need to get a job faster.
Those still employed are not completely left out of the competition…
No one wants to be taken unawares.
And there's You who have been job searching for a while now with no positive result.
What this means is…
You have to stay updated with the latest trend if you hope to win this game.
And the tool that gets you closer to winning the job of your dream is a well-targeted resume.
As a career coach, I have seen countless resumes throughout my career.?
I have worked on several resumes that got my clients job offers too.
And in the most recent days, I get this one question a lot…
"How do I make my resume stand out?"
This is what I have taken the time to address in this article.
And if you read this till the end, I have an offer that will land you the job of your dreams.
So, let's dig in.
While the basic structure and content of a resume remain the same, a lot keeps changing when it comes to the trends and best practices in resume writing.
And to stand out, you must get conversant with these trends.
Here are some of the latest trends and best practices that YOU should consider when crafting your resume.
Tailor your resume to the job you're applying for:
Gone are the days of sending the same generic resume to every job you apply for.?
I had a client who sent applications for 40 different jobs with the same resume.
It was out of frustration he came to me.
We scheduled a call where I took the time to explain the need to have a resume tailored to a specific job search.
Employers are looking for candidates who specifically meet the job requirements they're hiring for.?
This means customizing your resume for each job you apply for is very necessary.
To achieve this,?
Take the time to research the company and job description and tailor your resume accordingly.
Use a clean and simple design:
Your resume should be easy to read and visually appealing.?
Avoid cluttered designs, fancy fonts, and excessive use of color.?
Stick to a clean, simple design with easy-to-read fonts like Arial or Times New Roman.
Highlight your accomplishments:
This is another aspect to diligently look out for.

Instead of just listing your job duties, focus on the accomplishments and results you achieved in each position.?
Use numbers and statistics to quantify your successes, and make sure to relate them back to the job you're applying for.
Incorporate keywords:
When I was in HR, I saw several "great" resumes that didn't make it to the interview list.
The reason is simple…
We made use of the Applicant Tracking System(ATS).
Many companies now use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to screen resumes.?
These systems scan resumes for keywords and phrases that match the job description.?
You need to incorporate relevant keywords and phrases into your resume to increase your chances of making it past the initial screening.
Keep it concise:
Employers don't have time to read lengthy resumes.?
Keep your resume concise and to the point. Stick to one or two pages, and avoid long paragraphs and unnecessary details.
Use bullet points:
Don't neglect this.
Bullet points make your resume easier to read and highlight important information.?
Use bullet points to list your accomplishments, job duties, and skills.
Include a summary or objective statement:
A summary or objective statement at the top of your resume can help employers quickly understand your career goals and qualifications.?
Make sure to tailor this statement to the job you're applying for.
Proofread, proofread, proofread:
Just a single grammatical error can quickly turn off potential employers.?
A good resume should contain zero spelling mistakes.
Make sure to proofread your resume multiple times, and consider having a friend or family member review it as well.
In conclusion, by incorporating these latest trends and best practices, you can create a resume that stands out to employers and increases your chances of landing the job you want.?
Remember to always tailor your resume to the job you're applying for, keep it simple and concise, highlight your accomplishments, and proofread it multiple times.?
