Winning in the driving range & Time for Match Play

Winning in the driving range & Time for Match Play

After four intense days under unstable weather in the Gulf of Mexico in Tampa Bay, Taylor Moore was able to clinch a victory in the driving range.

Yes, Taylor finished his fourth round earlier in the day with a great card but not knowing what would be his faith in the colorful tournament (Valspar is an Interior and Exterior paint brand).

So he did proceed to snack up to get some fuel and go straight to the driving range to keep himself warmed up in case of playoff.

He waited [im]patiently for Adam Schenk and Jordan Spieth in the last twosome of the day.

However when neither Schenk nor Spieth were able to to hold their scores, Moore received the good news of his victory.

As a spectator, obviously I would have loved to see a Playoff between these amazing players, but let's face it, as a player… getting that kind of pat on the back while you practice your short game must have been a nice moment.

Match Play Time

Most of the PGA Tournaments are played under the Stroke Play mode, that is, everybody starts on a Thursday and at the end of the Sunday the player that finishes the four rounds with the lowest number of strokes wins. Simple.

However this week we are going to Austin TX (Close to Scottie Sheffler’s home) to play the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Apologies to the Golf experts here but please let me invest 20 seconds in putting everybody on the same page.

This tournament will consist of 16 groups of 4 players each, where they will have to play against each other in one to one battles.?

The player that wins the highest number of holes wins the match. They start at Hole 1 and the one who scores the lowest number of strokes in that particular hole gets a point.?

Basically if one player scores a triple bogey and the opponent a Par, he or she only loses 1 hole but starts from zero in the next one. They don’t carry over that +3.

If they finish with the same number of strokes, the hole will end in a draw and they move to the next one.

At the end of the Group phase, the surviving players will continue on One to One battles until only one player is alive.

Quite entertaining actually. Wednesday will be the first day with interesting matches such as Jon Rahm vs Ricky Fowler.

Tiger did it again…

In the edition of 2006, Stephen Ames made an unfortunate comment regarding the way Tiger Woods used to hit the ball before facing him in a Match.

The Match ended in a 9&8 in favor of Tiger Woods which is the fastest way to end a match.?

The media and the Golf community took no time in coining the term “getting Stephen Ames’ed”
