Winning ClimateTech and a Strategic Christmas

Winning ClimateTech and a Strategic Christmas

This week we're looking at what got the winners over the line at the Climate Tech Awards, the latest in Federal Business Funding, how, as a leader, you can do something remarkably more compelling for your clients and team this Christmas, and an offer on the remaining Strategic Foundation Sessions I have for 2023.

Winners in Climate Tech

Climate Salad delivered the 2023 Australian Climate Tech Festival & Awards this week, so who won and what do they do?!

Thanks to Charlotte Connell for the photo

It's almost a trick question because everyone involved in Climate Salad is a winner, though they did give out awards and here they are, a big congratulations to everyone:

?? Impact Award: Great Wrap -

Have you got it in the kitchen drawer yet?

".. a materials science company on a mission to end the human reliance on traditional plastics. We are greater than good."

This team produce 'a revolutionary, compostable stretch wrap.' for both consumer use and industry (pallet wrap).

?? Newcomer Award: Rainstick -

".. a northern Queensland startup combining indigenous knowledge systems and modern electrokinetics to encourage fungi and plants’ natural systems ..

Rainstick uses electricity to mimic the natural effects of lightning to grow crops bigger, faster and more sustainably." The website is quite inspired!

?? Woman in Climate Tech: Allys Todd -

Allys leads ValAi who are ".. building the tools industry needs today, so they can meet the sustainable finance demands of society tomorrow. Data solutions for lenders, insurers, homeowners and property professionals."

?? Mentor Award: Josh Geelan -

Josh is a Partner at KPMG, Climate Salad Mentor and stalwart of progressing all things ESG and climate tech startup - well done Josh.

?? Investor Award: Rachel Yang from Giant Leap-

Giant Leap was established over 6 years ago as 'Australia’s first 100% impact venture capital fund' and their website is a great example of how to convey what you are looking for, the impact you have and importantly, how investees can approach, interact with and succeed with you (check out the cheat sheat under 'what we look for').

?? Community Champion Award: Tim Prosser & Cheryl Mack -

The people who know the people! Tim and Cheryl are doing outstanding work driving and inspiring the collective.

?? Global Growth Award: Avarni -

".. Avarni is end-to-end carbon management software that allows organisations of all sizes to quickly identify and measure Scope 1-3 emissions across their entire organisation using their financial data.."

As they put it on their website "Go beyond carbon accounting software. Leverage a decarbonization platform that empowers you to actually achieve your net zero targets."

With mandatory climate reporting for large entities and emitters in Australia commencing from 1 July 2024, and others based on size phased in over 2026-27, systems such as Avarni are critical to businesses and Directors.

?? Eureka Breakthrough Award: Conry Tech -

".. Reinventing air-conditioning to make comfort sustainable. Conry Tech is a climate tech, green building HVAC innovator founded by award-winning experts in this field who have previously revolutionised the industry and created multiple global companies based on their tech.

“We don’t have problems, only opportunities and challenges.” - Ron Conry AM , Co-Founder

Industry Growth Program: Open For Business

The Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic MP declared yesterday that the $393M Federal Industry Growth Program is now open.

".. The program supports innovative small and medium enterprises undertaking commercialisation and/or growth projects within the National Reconstruction Fund priority areas through advisory services and opportunities for matched grant funding."

I'm excited to see this, as it replaces AusIndustry’s Entrepreneurs Programme which ran for several years, and I had the opportunity to deliver several projects around Australia as one of the Tailored Advisory Service (TAS) providers.
