Winning is a Choice

I just got back from hosting some of my team’s top performers in Huntington Beach, CA for Summit, our annual recognition trip. It’s a BIG DEAL to earn a spot to Summit. Our winners can bring a guest to celebrate with them, and we spoil them for a few days with well-deserved rest and relaxation.
It’s always energizing to spend time with our winners – their energy and passion is contagious. Here are three qualities I find common in our top performers:
- Optimism: Top performers see the potential in situations, regardless of the challenges along the way. If you can’t see it, you can’t be it. A positive mindset can make all the difference.
- Perseverance: Winners work through or around obstacles they encounter; they find a way regardless of the circumstances. We were fortunate to have Chris Widener, motivational speaker, speak at the event. He said, “The absence of obstacles does not make someone successful, it’s the presence of perseverance.” So true.
- Gratitude: Successful people are always thankful for the support, teamwork, leadership, and collaboration along their path to their success. They know they didn’t do it alone and they are generous with appreciation for others.
Winning is a choice. You are where you are because of the choices you’ve made to this point. Where you will be in the future is the sum of the choices you will make from this point forward.
Are you going to decide to be a winner?
