Winning in Business - Advocacy

Today I'm in Washington D.C. I am advocating for the insurance and financial services industry, and providing guidance for different lawmakers, as well as sititng on a few committees .

I am active in advocacy. However advocacy takes many different forms. Today I am talking with legislators, the form of advocacy where I am with legislators and talking about different legal issues, laws, and regulations that can affect financial services clients and the industry. This form of advocacy is important. You don't have to know everything about your topic, but you need to be intelligent and you need to be focused on your topic. This form of advocacy is about relationships and bringing information that is deeply important.

Another form of advocacy is what we do for our business. This can take the form of marketing, advertising, getting out on the street, or just spreading the word. This form of advocacy is partially about relationship, but more about tauting about what you do and how you are successful.

An additional form of advocacy is about advocating about yourself and your family. To me this is probably more important or the most important of all the forms of advocacy. We need to advocate for ourselves and our family. I am going through some medical things and I ask a lot of questions and try to do my research.

All of these forms of adovcacy require research, require information and and require you to help yourself and be storng about your position. This is very important how you research and ask questions is vital. To take a phrase from NBC, "the more you know" is extremely important and this helps you stay informed but also shows others you know your business, whether it is your industry, your fmaily or firends, or for your business. The more sophisticated and knowledgable you sound the better.
