WINNERS NEVER QUIT AND QUITTERS NEVER WIN is false bravado... sometimes!
Most of us will have come across the saying 'winners never quit and quitters never win'. Some of us will have had it drilled into us from a very early age; that quitting isn't for winners.
In attempts to out-do their relatives or communities, we have seen some parents placing excessive expectations on their children for exceptional academic achievements and ended up losing their children as a result.
Domestic abuse victims, particularly in some arranged marriages, have been expected to 'make it work' because if they don't, it would bring shame to the family.
Business owners have lost everything they have ever worked for in attempts to save their failing businesses, just to save face in their communities, or in attempting to keep up with the Jones's (or Jamal's). The term 'cutting your nose to spite your face' comes to mind.
Whether it be in our personal or professional lives, sometimes we're made to feel that quitting is a weakness in people who lack ambition and are destined to fail.
Whilst in some cases (depending on what the case is), this may hold true, in many cases, those with a strong winning mindset actually know when it is time to quit - for the right reasons.
Einstein once said:
"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results."
This is not to suggest that whenever we're faced with a situation where something isn't working, we simply rebel and quit altogether. Rather, if something isn't working, we may need to try a different way for it to work and 'quit' using the methods we have used thus far. To achieve anything of significance or meaningful, we are almost always required to strive and struggle; it is an important life skill.
However, sometimes we need to step back and analyze the situation and work out a different way, to make that thing work if indeed it is worth working for.
Einstein also said (maybe we should dedicate this post to him lol):
"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
Whether they be toxic relationships, personal goals, professional initiatives, or business strategies, if something is worth saving or worth working on, it is equally important that the right choices are made at the right time. Whether we take a diversion on our journey towards the destination or change our destination altogether, will be determined by several factors that are unique to the situation and judged on their respective merits.
That said, there are times when we simply need to be humble enough (or strong enough) to know when it is time to quit.
When:
- the risks associated to the safety, health, and wellbeing of ourselves and/or those we hold responsibility for, and/or
- we're faced with compromising our values and beliefs
far outweigh the potential benefits of continuing to do what we are doing, then it's time to do some serious evaluating (or re-evaluating) of what we're doing.
Sometimes, it takes real strength and courage to quit. I usually find that when the 'why' is clear, the 'how' usually follows. It's not always easy, but then it's not always meant to be...
Winners just know when to quit!
Have a great break, lovely people ??????

2 年Love this quote - The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results." Change is always tougher than the status quo. We’ve bought into the myth that winners never quit and quitters never win. If we’ve been knocked down seven times before, we’ve been told to get back on our feet and soldier on. The eighth time might just be the charm. I think we also worry too much about what family, friends and even strangers will think of us for quitting. “We assume that if we quit, even if it’s obviously the right thing to do, other people are going to think that we failed. That we’re capricious or weak. We don’t believe there’s going to be any empathy or understanding of why we might have made the choice that we did.” I believe - Success does not lie in sticking to things. It lies in picking the right thing to stick to and quitting the rest. Greater article Majid ??

4 年Enjoyed reading this post Majid W. Agree totally with what you say. It takes courage to quit! But when you know your values or wellbeing are being compromised, quitting is absoutely the right thing to do...no matter what the Jones' and Jamals will say!
