Winners: Bet On YOU

Winners: Bet On YOU

have no business telling everyone else to believe in and bet on themselves over anyone else, if I don't do it, too:

When I was thinking of applying to be a Fulbright Scholar, it was nerve-wracking. This is a huge opportunity to work internationally. The application process is almost 2 years and very few Professors are selected for it. When I asked some people their thoughts about it, most of the feedback was, "You probably won't get it."

They were correct: I applied and was rejected.

But, what separates winners from non-winners, is we don't give up. We may change tactics, we may change strategy, but we stay focused on the goal(s).

I applied again. But, this time, I changed strategy. Before redoing my application, I contacted 6 people who were past Fulbright Scholars to get their perspective. Only 1 responded. That was enough for me. Because I celebrate what I do get and don't sweat what I don't.

"Larry" gave me some helpful suggestions to improve my application and I applied, again.

Mind you, even if I didn’t get it, I planned to apply again. But, this time, I did get it. I was awarded the Fulbright Scholar to Armenia. I worked at American University of Armenia, in Yerevan, Armenia. It was amazing.

The professional recognition and personal growth that I gained is still paying off now. I bet on me and won the bet.

You owe you to believe in and value you. To put you over other people's opinions of you and ambitions for you. There is no job, there is no CEO, there is no manager, there is no staff member, that is more important than you.

Betting on you always pays off.
