You know the feeling, you’re at the table with your team, your category flashes onto the big screen, the anticipation around the table is tangible. They announce the finalists and low and behold your business logo is added to the short-listed businesses on the big screen. You feel the pit of your stomach churn as the guest presenter opens the golden envelope and….
If like many businesses, you haven’t experienced the feeling then it’s time you did. Let’s face it business is tough and challenging and as it stands there is often very little recognition for the efforts you have put into growth, marketing, innovation even being a new business. Yes, I know profit and survival might seem a reward, but let me tell you, being an award winning business makes a difference.
It’s not about being a ‘self-licking lollypop, indulging in self-importance, it’s about inspiration, motivation, celebration, congratulations it’s about recognising what’s good about you, your business and the team. Becoming an award-winning business is also about being externally validated. Having an outside party or parties assess what you do and how well you’re doing it. It sets you aside from your competitors, it gives the business kudos, and allows you to differentiate in terms of your marketing message.
Even the process of applying for your chosen awards will challenge you to take a really good view of what you have achieved. It’s not always easy to look at what you do, how you’ve done it and what you achieved and then to create an award-winning entry. Often, we suffer from being too modest, not thinking our achievements are worthy of recognition, let alone winning awards. The fact here is you’ll never know unless you actually have a go.
My message here is a simple one, take a really good look at what you do, what your team does and what the team has achieved and then look to celebrate it. Go and find out where your local business awards take place and when and then submit an entry. Here’s the impact for the winners of the South Devon Independent Business 2017 Amtek Plastics UK:
"We are still getting over the excitement of winning the Herald Express Business Award for 'Independent Business'. We can only enter an award like this if we feel confident within ourselves as a business and most importantly with the team that make this business the success that it is. We have the best team ever here at Amtek, loyal, passionate and determined which we continue to build upon taking us to new levels every year. There were so many other amazing South West companies in the room on the night of the awards, and we are so proud to have spent the evening in their company. It is great to see so many passionate businesses within the South West, and for us to be recognised as one of the outstanding businesses was simply amazing for us and our team."
