The winner is: KeyPoint Team

KeyPoint is a digital platform solution that provides a secure and trusted environment with robust governance controls. This platform enables access to sensitive data for research and analysis using powerful virtual desktops.

KeyPoint is a scalable, fully governed digital environment which enables data owners’ full control about who can access their data, what they can access and what they can do with the data.

No one in without permission; nothing out without permission.

The platform is designed as a secure and trusted environment but at the same time meets the FAIR data principles and the CARE data principles sought after by governments and researchers: the FAIR principles being Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable and the CARE principles being Collective Benefits, Authority to Control, Responsibility and Ethics.

KeyPoint has been developed by our key partner Queensland Cyber Infrastructure Foundation (QCIF; led by Dom) with co-investments from UQ, both the Faculty of Medicine and the Office of the Vice Chancellor, as well as the Queensland Government’s Research Infrastructure Co-investment Fund (RICF).

The development of KeyPoint is the result of a successful collaborative effort: drawing on our key external partners QCIF (where many of the team’s developers work) and people from many areas across UQ: Research Computer Centre, The Office of the PVC Research and Innovation, Information Technology Services, and Faculties including Business, Economics and Law, and Medicine.

KeyPoint is the next logical step in best data governance, management and analytical practices at UQ for researchers from anywhere in the world. When it comes to project documentation and storage UQ has the successful Research Data Management platform; now, when it comes to data governance for research access and analytics for sensitive data, we have KeyPoint.

The development of the KeyPoint platform began as a necessary solution for the Faculty of Medicine; it has quickly been realised as a solution for the whole of UQ. We are now recognising its value as a solution for UQs accreditation in housing Government data, its benefits to the agricultural and farming sector and how it can be used to tighten research programs with external agencies like the Australian Department of Defence.
