And the Award for the Best Air Pollution Tech Goes to…

Which technology can truly be the key to cleaner air? That's the question we asked our audience in our recent poll, and people have shared their thoughts. 65% of the people said Filter based technologies, 27% said non-filter-based technologies, 8% voted for Smog towers and none of them found water cannons as an effective solution for air pollution.?

While there may be no single technology that can completely eradicate air pollution, it is important to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different technologies in order to identify the most suitable solution. Here’s a comparison:?

Filter-based Technologies: Effective, but Limited

When it comes to tackling air pollution, filter-based technologies have long been considered the go-to solution. Our poll results reinforce this sentiment. Filter-based solutions are well-known for their ability to remove harmful particles from the air, contributing to improved air quality. However, it is crucial to understand their limitations. They primarily target indoor air pollution or specific point sources of emissions, making them more effective in those controlled environments. While they excel at removing pollutants from specific locations, they may not adequately address fugitive emissions or the pervasive issue of ambient air pollution in densely populated areas. Additionally, these solutions often come with recurring costs due to the need for regular filter replacements.

Non-Filter-based Technologies: A Promising Technology

The poll revealed that 27% of respondents recognize the potential of non-filter-based technologies as effective alternatives. One such groundbreaking technology is Pure Skies by Devic Earth. Our solution has garnered attention for its ability to reduce ambient particulate matter, taking a holistic approach to cleaning the air we breathe. Pure Skies requires minimal to no maintenance and covers a large area, making it an appealing choice for large-scale implementation. This innovative approach aims to provide cleaner air for communities far and wide.

Smog Towers: Limited Coverage and High Cost

In our poll, a mere 8% of respondents expressed confidence in Smog Towers as an effective solution for air pollution. Multiple filters within these towers trap pollutants, releasing clean air. These towers have been installed in the NCR region with support from notable figures. However, the significant drawback of this expensive technology is its high capital expenditure, reaching up to INR 20 crores, and the recurring cost of filter replacement. Also, they cover a circumference area of almost 500 meters to 750 meters. These factors render the technology financially unsustainable for lawmakers and industries.

Water Cannons: Not an Effective Solution

Interestingly, none of the respondents viewed water cannons as an effective solution for air pollution. Although water cannons have their applications in controlling dust or dispersing pollutants in certain scenarios, they lack the comprehensive approach required to address the complex challenges posed by air pollution on a larger scale. They also come at the disadvantage of heavy water consumption.?

Our poll results underscore the public's recognition of filter-based technologies as effective point source control equipment. However, it is essential to acknowledge their limitations when it comes to fugitive emissions and ambient air pollution. To tackle these challenges head-on, non-filter-based technologies such as Pure Skies are emerging as promising alternatives, providing cleaner air with minimal maintenance requirements and larger coverage.
