But what exactly is CAS, and why is it so vital in modern warfare?

What is Close Air Support (CAS)?

Close Air Support involves aircraft delivering precision strikes against enemy targets to assist ground forces engaged in combat. Unlike airstrikes targeting distant objectives, CAS happens in close proximity to friendly troops, demanding pinpoint accuracy and meticulous coordination.

The Role of CAS in Modern Warfare

CAS serves as a bridge between air superiority and ground operations. Its goals are straightforward yet critical:
