Winging It Is for Birds—Smart People Have Systems

It's the year 2024 and I trust that by now you are aware of the importance of promoting mental wellbeing in your workplace if you want to improve engagement, retention and performance.??
If you have employee wellbeing interventions or initiatives in place, let me ask you this:
On a scale from 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with the effectiveness of your actions to manage mental health at work??
Before you respond, keep in mind that the question is not about how happy you are with the level of activity (i.e. training, awareness campaigns, support systems, etc.); the question is asking you to reflect on the effectiveness of?your actions.
More often than not I run into well-meaning organisations with a calendar full of activities to promote mental wellbeing, but in 90% of the cases, these activities are not conducive to the effective management of mental health in the business. Having numerous employee benefits doesn’t mean that you are effectively reducing work-related mental ill-health.?
The key word here is system.?
If you employ five people or more, your employer’s legal duty of care requires you to have a system, and both national and international standards of workplace wellbeing (ISO 45003) require you to have a system that allows you to plan, organise, control, monitor, review and record the protective and proactive measures you are taking to promote mental wellbeing at work.??
You don’t need to buy expensive software to do this. If you are a small company you can even use a spreadsheet, but you have to have a system in place that allows you to measure the effectiveness of your actions. When I see such systems implemented, something that I notice is that these companies get more for less. Instead of packing their calendar with employee wellbeing activities, they take targeted actions that get results, saving them loads of time, energy and resources.
So, let’s rephrase my initial question, and I'll ask you this instead:
Have you got a system in place that allows you to plan, organise, control, monitor, review, and record the protective and proactive measures you take to manage mental health in your workplace?

If not, you might be wasting valuable resources that give you the illusion that you are being effective. If you do, well done!
