Wine-Searcher Friday Night - Beer + Whiskey
On Friday we had little different tasting. Although called Wine-Searcher we have the location and price of most beers, spirits in the world. So to mix it up, we tried some beers from the old and the new world.
The first beer was from Germany, a Weizenbier or a wheat beer called Flensburger Weizen. Paired with chips and classic Watties Tomato Sauce.
The second beer from USA. The Dogfish Head India Pale Ale or IPA which is rather hoppy.
The third beer, a Westmalle Trappist Tripel and the triple refers to the alcohol content so it is a quite strong beer with 9%.
And as a little bonus we tasted the Skunk Works Cognac Barrel Aged Double IPA that has some ‘interesting’ flavours. )Not sure where we got it from as it is not on Wine-Searcher...
Thanks to our inhouse German beer and wine man - Robert Anding
And in celebration of the launch of our new app WhiskeySearcher, The tasting finished with a little malted delight from Don - Ardbeg Corryvreckan Single Malt.
I found these tasting notes on the whisky.
Nose: Sticking plasters, (Band Aid to the Americans...never seen this one before) buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine
Palate: Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters (this again), Clementines. Orange peels.
Finish: Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Overall: Astonishing.
And it was.
