The grape variety is crucial when it comes to wine—this is the foundation of the wine's flavor and characteristics. To impress at dinner, knowing your grapes is key! For example:?? Cabernet Sauvignon offers a deep, bold fruity flavor.?? Merlot tends to be softer and less tannic.?? Pinot Noir is light, elegant, and complex.?

Some basic grape varieties to know: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Malbec, Grenache.

Wine regions are split into two categories: Old World and New World.
