THE WINDRUSH SCHEME: Check your eligibility
The Windrush scheme is for those individuals who are already in the United Kingdom and have settled here but do not hold any documents to prove this. There are criteria to be met by these individuals in order to be eligible to make an application for this scheme. Through this process, they will grant a document to these applicants to prove their right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
Individuals who came to the United Kingdom before the year 1973 from a Commonwealth country are eligible to apply for this scheme. Depending on their circumstances such as whether they have been living in the United Kingdom continuously, left the country for more than 2 years and returned or are currently outside the United Kingdom they will be accordingly granted a status. The status granted could either be citizenship, right of abode, returning resident visa or multiple entry visa for a period of ten years.
Individuals who are the children of those Commonwealth citizens who came to the United Kingdom before the year 1973 and settled there. The status of your parents will further determine the immigration status these applicants will receive in the United Kingdom. These individuals may either get British citizenship or a document to confirm their indefinite leave-to-remain status.
Lastly, those individuals who had arrived in the United Kingdom before 31st December 1988 and settled here can also apply for a document to prove their right to live and work. For this category, there is no bar on the nationality of the citizen. When it comes to the application process depending upon where it is being made the process differs. There is no fee applicable for this process. After submission of the form for this scheme applicants need to submit their biometric information.
