Windows 10/11 USB Creation - SPECIFY Professional version instead of Home

When you have a machine that was OEM Windows 10 or 11 home it will force the USB install of windows to go to the version the OEM that was already on the machine. Below are the steps to allow you to choose what version of Windows 10 or 11 you are going to install from your USB still.

You can force install of Pro with a file:

1. Open Notepad

2. Copy and paste the below text into the notepad: (Copy text below)

[EditionID]

Professional

[Channel]

Retail

3. Save the file to your desktop as a text file

4. If you can't see the .cfg extension to change it from .txt go to Windows. Explorer> View> Click

Once you can see the extension you can change it to .cfg

4. Navigate to the file in Windows explorer and change the name of the file to ei.cfg

5. Cut and paste the file to your USB stick in the \Source on your Windows 10 installation media (USB flash drive).

7. Now when you clean install Windows it will allow you to choose the edition instead of auto detecting.
