I knew I didn't have to commit to a set frequency for this newsletter as it takes longer than expected to turn an idea into action but here we are again (too many nostalgic moments piled up)
Welcome to the third edition of 'Beating the Algorithm' your TLDR marketing newsletter news and stories sprinkled with digital nostalgia.
With 500+ subscribers from the first two issues, we are ready to explore more marketing news with a retro twist.

I'm focusing on two stories on this issue
The potential TikTok ban in the US
The House of Representatives passed a bill that could ban TikTok in the US. We've been hearing about this for quite some time and the fear of how the Chinese-owned app handles private user data (as if we're safe from all other data)
The question is, what's next?
It's an interesting time we live in and there are even questions on what a potential ban can mean for other countries.
Google's latest core update
Google's March 2024 core update has impacted many websites - some of them have even been completely deindexed
The new update targets low-quality content and spam and Google's goal is to reduce low-quality and unoriginal content by 40%.
This is great news for those of us who didn't jump on creating endless pages of boring AI-generated content for our clients.
This doesn't mean that you can't use AI in your content creation process, but hopefully, we won't be bombarded by boring and uninspiring content.

What makes an engaging post? It’s the combination of good copy and visuals that complement your message.
Katarzyna Kowalewska is a LinkedIn creator and social media expert who certainly knows how to create great visuals to tell a story (make sure you follow her!)
I came across Katarzyna’s work several months ago. After liking a few of her posts, I realised that I enjoy how she uses images to strengthen the post’s message.
I asked her a few questions to find out more about her work and what we could learn from her.
A visual is just an extra element. It helps as an eye-catcher, but the most important is the value and unique POV that I provide with my copy. If my insights were boring or low-quality, no visual would help.

Winamp is making a comeback (sort of)
Remember Winamp? I was feeling so cool playing around with the equalizer pretending I'm a DJ.
The other fun element? You could use different skins to transform your museum player.
(I know people born after 2000 will probably be unimpressed now)

Winamp is rising from its ashes to present a new app and an interface that reminds us more of Spotify than nostalgic Winamp.
