Win Your Day--Everyone will respect you if...
“When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you.”
-- Lao Tzu
Regardless of age, income level, or job we all face challenges on a daily basis.
And that’s a great thing because challenges keep us growing and moving forward. They make life interesting. They make it fun.
And when we look at challenges as opportunities to grow and move forward then we end up welcoming them. We might even seek them out.
But taking on those challenges is, well, a challenge and so the very last thing we need is add to the level of difficulty by comparing our lives to others in the process.
We look around and see others who we think are happier, or have more money, or seem to get more respect from people, or have an easier time finding a life partner, or…it goes on and on.
Of course, when we compare ourselves to others we do so without truly knowing what their live looks like “behind the scenes” or what they are going through in their own heads.
If we consider ourselves ahead of them, then we worry about maintaining that status and in turn keeping them down, while if we think we’re behind them then we beat ourselves up for not being better while trying to knock them down.
Today, realize the foolishness in comparing yourself or your life to others. It is a waste of time and it keeps you from not only living your best life but from enjoying the life that you currently have. If you want to learn from someone else, great, but stop comparing. You are unique. Create your own life and your own standards. That’s more than enough to fill your time and enrich your soul.
