The Story

The expansion of Ovolo Hotels into Australia was a seamless transition to make, yet it was the acquisition of Ovolo Woollomooloo in 2015 that turned out to be our most difficult acquisition to date.

Prior to it becoming an Ovolo, the Woolloomooloo hotel had previously been owned by two prominent hotel chains – and neither had been very successful… but I still liked it. My friends told me I was crazy. My business partners advised me against it. The banks didn’t want to back me. I was told the property was a lemon – but my gut told me to go for it.

As they say… when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

I could see the potential in the property – the stunning historical building on the wharf, the picturesque views of Sydney Harbour and the ideal location in the centre of vibrant Woolloomooloo. So I did it!

I trusted my gut, ignored the naysayers and went for it anyway… and it paid off! Fast forward a few years and here we are, TripAdvisor’s #1 Hotel in Australia.

The Competition
