You have an awesome piece of content, a valuable webinar, or an exciting new product that you want to share with your audience.

But how do you write an email that will get them to take action?

If you’re not a copywriter by trade then you might find this part of the process a little difficult. Luckily, there are a few proven templates you can use to create a compelling message that drives conversions.

The next time you’re writing a marketing email give one of these four copy templates a try.

The “What to Do If…” Email

Is there a common roadblock your audience runs into? Use this email to bring attention to the issue and then let them know what to do if they’re struggling with this as well.

  1. Identify the problem or roadblock the reader is facing.
  2. Agitate the problem by detailing the negative consequences the reader is likely dealing with because of it.
  3. Point out the reasons why this problem exists.
  4. Explain your solution and the benefits they’ll enjoy by using it.
  5. Finish with a call to action.

The “Common Mistake” Email

In this email, you highlight a common mistake people make that’s holding them back. The idea is to get the prospect to see that they are actually really close to success, if they would only stop doing this one thing.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Start by talking about a popular behavior people you see from your audience that is actually the wrong way to do things.
  2. Point out why this behavior is wrong and the negative consequences it can have.
  3. Describe the benefits they’ll enjoy when they start doing things the right way.
  4. Discuss your solution that shows them the correct way to do things.
  5. Finish with a call to action.

The “FAQ” Email

Do you frequently receive the same questions from your audience? If so, the first thing you should do is create a piece of content or a product around the solution. Next, you can use these questions as the basis of an email.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Begin the email by saying “I’ve been receiving a lot of questions about [insert topic here].
  2. Explain why these questions are important.
  3. Briefly answer a few of the questions.
  4. Tell your audience that if they’d like more information on the topic to check out your solution.
  5. Finish with a call to action.

The “Simple Trick” Email

Use this email to help your audience achieve a quick win for a common problem they’re facing. The subject line for this email might be “Use this one simple trick to solve [insert problem here]”.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Tell a story about how you struggled with a common problem your audience often deals with.
  2. Discover how you discovered a trick that helped you overcome this problem.
  3. Give a brief overview of your trick.
  4. Segue to your content or product, which discusses the trick in more detail.
  5. Finish with a call to action.
