IMPEDIMENTS AND BARRIERS

In our recent Glint survey, people – in particular those with few years of employment - see a large opportunity to further remove barriers and impediments. I had a short dialogue this morning with a friend working with our in-car software team, verbalizing a similar picture in higher resolution and color depth. Friends, we need these barriers to be gone. I know of a few, I can guess a few more, but I am very curious to understand more about any issues we see limiting our speed to create and ship a great consumer experience. And I want all managers to focus on this task, on how you can open up the bandwidth to higher speed!

LiDAR

Not that I don’t love to show the fact that our future cars will have their eyes where all living creatures on the planet have them – at the top of their body, at the highest point to see threat and opportunity, food or predator – but it makes me really proud to learn about our recent design and engineering improvements making the LiDAR package smaller, the aero-dynamics better and of course super good looking!

Last week we demoed our next generation fully electric car. The focus was hardware readiness and Final Data Judgement status. Tremendous effort is going in. All teams are fighting, and we are in for a tough journey together going forward. Transforming almost every nut and bolt, in a world where risk-minimizing has proven rewarded again and again for over a hundred years of automotive history, is a challenge. And to quote Mats’ closing words at the demo – Let’s come together R&D, Procurement, Manufacturing, Design, S&BO and Digital to make this rocket fly. By collaborating we can only win or learn. Nothing else!

Henrik G. you say R&D refering just to Volvo - I would say Auto makers as an industry should be embracing Open Innovation. Crazy idea "Energy from a Tank of Water" or if it works then Global Transport has a Silver Bullet to Decarbonise a universal application of H2-O2 Combustion engine generator as a Zero emission power train. Zero NOx as does not use compressed air as expander = water spray to rapid Steam pressure = Zero CO2 as will not recharge from external sources What would you lose - €250,000 to have th enew engine type validated at TU Berlin No Large heavy - very costly batteries - no big H2 tanks taking up space

GREAT, continue to make the right choice, a proposition, review new car guarantees that lower confidence among us customers, I can mention many examples, Norway vs Sweden. What prevents Volvo from offering a worldwide commitment like Tesla?
