A Win is a Win: Finding the Silver Lining in Rejection

A Win is a Win: Finding the Silver Lining in Rejection

Today, I received a rejection letter from a large corporation in Indiana. The message was thoughtful and personal, coming directly from the Vice President of Education within the organization. They explained that their funding was primarily reserved for higher education initiatives within their own state. Yet, instead of disappointment, I felt something entirely different—gratitude and encouragement.

Why? Because this wasn't just a generic 'no.' The VP took the time to acknowledge our mission at the Ebed-Melech Foundation, recognizing the value we bring. They even pointed me toward other potential funding opportunities—an act of kindness that speaks volumes.

I was genuinely elated. Not at the rejection itself, but at the fact that our currently small foundation had managed to gain the attention of such a prominent figure. Someone from a well-established organization took the time to respond personally and uplift our mission. This was a win.

Immediately, I reached out to my colleague who had written the proposal to congratulate her. At first, she was confused—how could rejection feel like a win? But I explained: "Your efforts are making progress. Your words are landing on influential desks. Doors are being noticed, and the right ones will soon open. We are believing God for big things this year."

This is what it means to find the silver lining.

Rejection doesn't mean failure. It means visibility. It means we're on the radar. It means someone sees the impact we're striving to create. Remember, your steps are ordered. When you're faithful over a few things, God will make you ruler over many. A win is a win.

At Ebed-Melech Foundation, we remain committed to empowering students through faith-based education and leadership development. This year, we’re believing for greater partnerships, expanded impact, and the resources to equip more students to thrive in purpose-driven careers.

Your share is inspiring, an absolute win, and a gracious no, which is empowering, as it will pave the way to precisely what God has in store. Embrace the no ...play the big game!
