Welcome to this week's edition of the Sustainability Newsletter. This newsletter will update you with the latest news and information in the sustainability sector to help your business transition towards a greener future.

Wimbledon is in full force, with the 2024 tournament set to come to a close on the 14th of July. The championships, better known as 'Wimbledon' dates back to 1877 and has grown substantially over the years it is has run, expecting to see 500,000 across the two weeks of the championship.

However, this impressive growth comes with an increased carbon footprint, as attendees join the site to witness the action. To address this, Wimbledon began implementing sustainability measures as early as 2009 when the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) enlisted sustainability consultants to help reduce their environmental impact.

In 2020, they announced their goal to reach net zero by 2030. “We believe that the AELTC and The Championships have a meaningful role to play in helping to protect the environment, today and for the future,” commented AELTC Chief Executive Sally Bolton OBE .

Following this, AELTC released a series of commitments through to 2030, which continue to shape this year's tournament. But, are the AELTC’s ambitions and approach worthy of a grand slam, or might they have dropped the ball??In this feature, Sustainability News explores Wimbledon's green credentials from 2024 and beyond.
