WIMAR Singapore Member Spotlight: Alina Arnold
Title: WIMAR Singapore Member Spotlight: Alina Arnold
Authors: Troy Mcnamara and Alina Arnold
People are the driving force behind WIMAR Singapore. Meet WIMAR Board member Alina A.
We asked Alina about her experience heading the Leadership stream for WIMAR.?
Troy Mcnamara:
Tell us about your role and key accountabilities for WIMAR Singapore.
Alina Arnoldi:
I am currently the board member responsible for the leadership stream, alongside my fantastic team Harshit and Florence. This year kicked off with a new podcast series on leadership where we spoke to leaders across the industry on a variety of topics from how to create a culture of care, protecting our energy as leaders and managing careers with busy family life. Later in the year, we will be sharing two programs with the industry – Amplifier – for those early to mid-career looking to channel their executive presence and excel in panel or media situations. We will also offer a new program called Career Extensions. In this time of the great reset, this program will allow members to draw on their strengths, reflect on moments in their career that have really lifted them and how to build a strong network to help propel them to that next dream role in the mining and resources sector.
?Troy Mcnamara:
What drove you to volunteer for WIMAR Singapore??
?Alina Arnold:?
I have been involved with Women in Mining as a participant both in the UK and Western Australia throughout my career. When I moved to Singapore, WIMAR was the first place I looked to meet new connections (and friends), and I really enjoyed the ethos of truly embracing diversity across genders and cultures. I wanted to have the opportunity to give back to a global network that had always been there for me, so here I am!

?Troy Mcnamara:?
What has your experience been like since volunteering for WIMAR Singapore? What have you enjoyed or found rewarding so far?
?Alina Arnold:?
When I started volunteering with WIMAR just over a year ago, we were still working fully remotely with everything done online. We have recently been able to hold in-person events and the AGM also in person, which has been such a rewarding progression back to normality. I think everyone is happy to be meeting face to face again and it's one of the core pillars of WIMAR - networking.
?I also loved working on the podcast with Kapila (the previous Leadership lead); it was a steep learning curve having never done anything like this before and running all of the processes ourselves. Still, it was very rewarding to speak to some amazing leaders and provide our community with some food for thought and tips on how to be a leader at any level.
?Troy Mcnamara:?
Outside of your work with WIMAR Singapore, what keeps you busy??
?Alina Arnold:?
I work for Rio Tinto in the Iron Ore Commercial group here in Singapore, which keeps me happily busy most days. Outside of work and WIMAR, I enjoy yoga, outdoor activities and trying out Singapore’s many amazing cafés and restaurants. Plus now that travel is back – getting out and exploring South East Asia.
Thank you Alina for your contributions to our 100% volunteer-run organisation.
