Willingness to learn

Unemployment is a worrying issue, but whats more worrying is the lack of skills. If you have got the knowledge and willingness to work then there is definitely no issue in getting a job. Having experience and gaining skills are two different issues. You can work for four years in an organization, but if only thing you have learned there is making sales or purchase entries then your skill set is confined to that only.
I have realized with time that only people who grow are those who are willing to learn. Either you can go to your jobs, work for 9-10 hours a day, gossip about your colleagues, play office politics and do your respective job and come home tired, or you can learn new skills, show willingness to work and cooperate with your colleagues and seniors and grow yourself; the choice is yours.
While conducting interviews I get surprised when people come with 10-12 years of experience and they know nothing about GST or TDS. Their answer is that our seniors or CA used to do it. So what actually did they learn? I have seen people who come to me to learn something new and it really impresses me. You should be willing to learn.
I remember going to my seniors and telling them that I want to learn this skill. Everyone is willing to teach you, but are you eager enough to learn?
There is lot of competition now-a-days. For one job there are around 9-10 candidates that apply and only thing that is going to help you get a job is your skill set. Increase your learning, add something to it every other day. Even a new excel formula will be an edge against a person who doesn't know it.
Be eager or willing to learn.
