Failing is learning
You know it is so important to be willing to fail - just so that you learn from your failure to have a bigger success! I don't think that I would even think to write this article few years ago. In 2011, I used to think "My English is so horrible, people would make fun of it." I used to have fear to even talk in front of others because what if I say something and then they start laughing at me. I realized that I was not willing to fail, willing to accept that my English needs to be improved. When I started working for Capgemini in 2012/2013 I met so many people coming all over from India. One of my co-worker/friend told me -"Hey your English is so much better than mine, I wish I could talk like you". I looked at him and was waiting to tell me that he was being sarcastic. But he wasn't and then I realized that he comes from a city where 1 out of 10 people could barely speak English. He asked me to communicate in English with him rather than in Hindi.

He told me -"It is completely fine, if you find my English funny and feel like laughing". That moment itself, I was willing to fail and accept the failure. I was willing to understand that it is completely fine if I fail and make mistakes because that's how I will know that I need to improve and learn from that very mistake and failure. After accepting the failure, my English started getting better. At the minimum I was more confident on presenting, and communicating. I did many presentations in front of 100's of people. I am sure I failed many times in those presentation, I saw many people smiling and giggling at the way I pronounce some words, but that did not stopped me - I just understood that everyday I am getting better than yesterday! It's totally fine if someone is smiling, at least you are the cause they are smiling!

Ask for feedback!
Since I started accepting my limitations, I also started to accept the constructive comments/feedback's. It is very important that you do an introspection. Sometimes you get so busy in work that you don't even know if you are doing right things but you are just doing it. People will not give you feedback unless you ask them. We all are improving daily, but to understand "What needs to be improved?" is the key. I am what I am because of my willingness to ask for feedback and work on them. In my previous and current job, I make sure that I set 1 hour in 2 weeks with my boss/co-workers to ask them - "How am I doing at my position? What are the things you think I need to work on? Is there anything you want me to learn? How can I perform better? And trust me when you are willing to accept the feedback, everyone will tell you the truth. Just because they know that you really want to learn! This really helps me to understand my areas of improvement and get better everyday!

7 年Congratulations Pritesh for your article. You have understood how to overcome your limitations. If the same is realized a bit earlier, while we are still studying in colleges, we would be better prepared for industry, get better jobs and even employers will be happy.
