William Hill has blamed government restrictions on how much punters can bet on fixed-odds betting terminals for its decision to close 700 shops across the UK. The plan, which puts 4,500 jobs at risk, comes after the bookmaker saw "a significant fall' in gaming machine revenues after new legislation reduced the maximum stake from £100 to £2. According to the BBC, sources said fixed-odd terminals were responsible for more than 50% of turnover in store, particularly in inner-city areas. ? Here’s what people are saying.
It affects more than 10% of people, but relatively few workplaces have policies in place to deal with dyslexia, the BBC says. A new report from NGO Dyslexia and Literacy International suggests most countries are failing workers with the condition. Some candidates with dyslexia are hurt by recruitment processes that discourage them from applying, while others say they have experienced discrimination during interview or selection processes, according to another report. ? Kim Kardashian West has been awarded $2.7m (£2.1m) in a lawsuit against British fashion brand Missguided over claims it ripped off her outfits. In her lawsuit against the US arm of Missguided, the TV star and businesswoman claimed the company was "notorious" for selling knock-off versions of celebrity looks. It comes after a report by MPs called on fast fashion retailers to address their environmental impact. Last year, UK consumers sent 300,000 tonnes of textiles to be burned or dumped in landfill. ? The National Trust will divest its £1bn portfolio from fossil fuel companies as it seeks to help tackle climate change. The move to sell off fossil fuel investments worth £45m tightens a 2015 decision that the Trust would not invest directly in companies that “derive more than 10% of their turnover from the extraction of thermal coal or oil from oil sands”. While most of us are aware of stress and its impact on our own health, we may be less aware of the negative impact our stress has on our colleagues. Like a yawn, stress can be contagious. To stop your stress from impacting people around you, the Harvard Business Review advises zoning in on the root cause of stressors, keeping a stress journal for one month, creating "recovery periods" and trying to adjust your reaction to stress. ? Idea of the Day: Running a business is a lot like high-intensity interval training, with one-to-five minute bursts of exertion, followed by comparable periods of rest, writes Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes.
“There were stretches where my life simply had to be put on hold, with the business consuming every ounce of my energy. [...] But — and here’s the key lesson from HIIT — those bursts of activity absolutely need to be offset by periods of rest and recovery.”

5 年Rates are killing these businesses but the government is all too blind to this. Also people saying this is good as it will take gambling off the streets. WH is probably the most regulated legal betting shop you can find. This will only move the gambling business into dirtier hands. Then again with the state of the country, everything else is shit so why not this too?

5 年Being a dyslexic person I know that my phone has given me a freedom to speak and give my opinion.. I have just started to use software call Dragon, and that has open another door.. so I can be independent and not have to wait on other people to check for my spelling, commas and full stops. There has been a survey to actually say that people get frustrated especially young boys they're more likely to not behave because they see their peers doing something that they would love to do.. that's express themselves in a cohesive way.. each child is totally different on how they behave.. when I was younger I just thought I was thick and stupid but! I know now that isn't the case I can give you an example:- It's like being in a glass box and not being able to open it the way you want to express yourself. There's so many things in Society that have the dots but not the connection I would like to see more jobs that Cater in a unique way for someone who's dyslexic I know there's different forms of dyslexia also like the bus who had a daughter with dyslexia he was sympathetic and he made the changes to help others.
