Lore

In a vast and diverse galaxy, champions across the cosmos engage in thrilling competitions that revolve around the skilled utilization of collectible cards. These cards serve as a gateway to summoning an array of distinctive and powerful monsters, each possessing unique abilities and strengths. The ultimate objective for these champions is to participate in epic battles that take place in the wildcard universe to score goals.

Bolgar, originally known as Neralis, was once the prince and heir to the throne of the Saering royal family. As a young boy, he was betrayed by his jealous younger brother and cast into a deep crevasse while playing in the woods. Within the crevasse, Bolgar encountered a bear cub, and they engaged in a fierce battle. Both sustained injuries, and their blood mingled, creating a magical connection that caused them to fuse into a single being - they became "werebeared."

Bolgar was drawn to the sport of Wildcard. His ability to recognize the unique talents of other creatures and incorporate them into his gameplay made him a formidable strategist. Bolgar's deep understanding of his teammates allowed him to become a better leader, as he embraced his role as one of the champions in the Wildcard arena.

Locke is the rising star of the Chronian Wildcard team. As a former lead techno-engineer, he was responsible for creating many of the robots and upgrades used by the Chronos Royals in battle. Despite his background, Locke always dreamed of playing Wildcard himself and even developed his own unique ability, Chronowarp, in case the opportunity ever arose.

Locke's chance finally came when King Valla announced "open tryouts" – allowing any citizen of Chronos to compete against Prince Boone for a spot on the Wildcard team. The tryouts were a mere facade, as King Valla intended to appear egalitarian, assuming no other Chronians could possibly defeat his son. However, he was in for a shock when a masked man in a flowing techno-cloak appeared, wielding the never-before-seen Chronowarp power, and consistently defeated Boone.

Frustrated, King Valla demanded the mysterious contender to reveal his identity. As Locke removed his helmet, the crowd recognized him as the lowly engineer and celebrated him as the new champion of the people. By Valla's own rules, Locke was promoted to the Chronos Wildcard team, displacing Boone from the major league. This turn of events left the entire royal family humiliated and Boone enraged.

Gameplay

The current version of the game, which is in closed beta, looks stunning! The work on the characters, summons, arena, and special effects is done to a high standard. This quality translates not just to the visuals but also to the mechanics, making for a very enjoyable game with only minor bugs that we encountered during the playtest such as lag and some optimization issues on low end PC’s. The team assured us that some of these bugs were already resolved in the new build they have at the ready.

Currently, the game is limited to one game mode and arena and two playable champions, Bolgar and Locke with plans to add more champions in the future. Each champion has their own unique look and abilities, which you can build your deck of summons around. To start playing the game you need an invite from a Holder to join a playtest or you need to have one the Genesis Wildpasses. Playtests are exclusive to Holders and their guests for the time being, however as the game progresses it will eventually open up more people.

Before jumping into a game, you'll choose one of these champions, and both currently have their own preset summons deck to play with, featuring some overlap in summons and some unique ones as well. Getting to know each hero's abilities and summons was quite easy with the guidance of the team, and the learning curve was minimal (though mastering will be steeper). The differences in summons abilities and how to use them were fascinating to play around with and optimize as soon as possible to gain the upper hand over your opponent. A quick change in battle tactics during the first few games played showed how swiftly one can get into the game and adapt based on the little experience a few games can provide.

Champions and Sidekicks

The two champions to choose from are Bolgar & Burr, a man in touch with nature and his pet bear, and the more futuristic, tech-savvy champion Locke with his robotic dog Wotchy. Their abilities and ultimate's sync with their appearance, offering unique playstyles. While Locke prefers shooting from a distance, Bolgar and Burr get up close and personal with warm bear hugs.

Summons

Summoned entities gather in support of their champions on the arena floor. Each summon possesses a unique skill, which they have refined through dedication and practice. While each summon has its own distinct abilities, they help to reach the goal and score victory for our team.

WOTCHY

AN OLD STANDBY, WOTCHY WAS KING VALLA’S KEY PLAYER FOR A GENERATION ON LUBABUB.

He hasn’t changed much, which is rare in Chronian players. Some say he was once a real dog, in fact the King’s own puppy, who was given a second life as a robot. Others think he’s an obvious watch-dog stand-in, created by a Chronian R&D department. Regardless, Wotchy is the most loyal, good boy on the field and Locke’s personal pet off the field. Rumors have it that Locke has been tinkering under the hood of Wotchy, so get ready to be surprised

JANZ

AN EXPLOSIVE FORCE ON THE FIELD, WITH HER TRADEMARK CANNONBALL MOVE, JANZ IS A BIG PART OF THE CHRONOS OFFENSIVE LINE.

Janz is seen as the star of her team, and is willing to do whatever it takes to stay that way. Despite her size and power, she’s remarkably sneaky, and loves to observe other creatures from a distance, getting to know them, so she can analyze them and beat them. Sometimes, she even studies her own teammates. This makes her Locke’s go to “scout” in reconnoitering Bolgar’s team. Of course, she might do more than scout for Locke. And it was King Valla who did her last upgrade...

FENDOR

FENDOR IS A ROBOTIC REPLICA OF LUMPH.

Realizing Lumph was a nearly unbeatable defensive lineman in the last Wildcard games, Locke decided to make his own, better, version. Locke had to add his signature to Fendor, though, and gave him a big boost of personality – lovability and studiousness. This accidentally resulted in Fendor becoming Lumph’s biggest fanboy. He’s spent his existence studying Lumph and all his games, all his moves, all his big moments -- Fendor just LOVES Lumph! He has his poster on his wall, buys all his memorabilia, and just can’t wait to meet his hero in real life and assumes Lumph wants to meet him to

LUMPH

LUMPH IS THE WILDCARD DEFENSIVE CHAMPION…

or at least he was five years ago when his Aura Shield made it nearly impossible for team Chronos to score against team Lubabub. Lumph was so often cited as the reason that Lubabub took the championship that he believes it and is convinced he’s a superstar and that no one compares to him in terms of defense. Lumph loves stinky food, stinky smells, and mud. He especially loves eating old lettuce and worms. Unfortunately, unlike Gorrit who’s been training for years, Lumph is so convinced that no one can match his defensive skill that he’s gained a lot of weight and lost a lot of muscle but he hasn’t noticed that at all. He’s still convinced that he doesn’t need to train because his signature move, Aura Shield, is still the best move around! He may have a rude awakening on Frostburn…

GORRIT

A FAN FAVORITE AND THE LEADING CREATURE PLAYER FOR THE LUBABUB TEAM, GORRIT IS A SERIOUS ATHLETE.

He’s the main offense for the Lubabubian team and like all superstars, he’s in great shape. Born in the high forests of Lubabub, he has trained from birth for victory. He eats THOUSANDS of calories a day but because there is no “junk food” in the Lubabubian jungle, he’s very healthy. (Hopefully, he won’t get a taste for junk food on Frostburn!) Although Gorrit was depressed when Bolgar withdrew from playing Wildcard, he kept at his training. His huge body needs three beds and hotel rooms often need to be expanded for him.

SPORD

SPORD IS A MUSHROOM FROM THE FORESTS OF LUBABUB.

He has the unique ability to clone himself, but each clone ultimately develops a unique personality, sometimes even personalities that disagree with each other. A patriotic Lubabubian, he’s a utility player on the field, having been picked to fill space on the team, and fill space he did! If given time, he can clone so many versions of himself that he can overwhelm any defense. Five years ago during Bolgar and Locke’s first Wildcard battle, Spord Spud was discovered obscuring Locke’s defense cannon. Spord was subsequently suspended from the Wildcard Games. But he’s served his time, and when Bolgar came back, he brought Spord with him. Still, Spord has a chip on his shoulder: he’s adamant he did not sabotage Locke’s turrets and even though he’s back on the team, he still feels overlooked by Bolgar. Spord thinks he’s a really important player, but is jealous that other more “indivisible” players get all the limelight and attention. Even though everyone gives Lumph credit as the defensive hero who prevented Locke from winning all those years ago, Spord believes it was him and his clones on the field who let Lumph shine. Spord feels overlooked… and just might act out.

About Melee on the Meteor

Since the game is in development in an exciting gaming event, two intriguing competitions are set to unfold: Streamer vs. Streamer and Community vs. Streamer. The winners of these contests will face off in the ultimate showdown. This final match will not only determine the fate of Bolgar, aiming to regain former glory, and Locke, defending his crown, but it will also leave an indelible mark on the history, lore, and narrative of the Wildcard universe.

As an added incentive, those watching the Melee on the Meteor as spectators can look forward to the chance of winning a variety of airdropped prizes and securing coveted slots on Wildcard's next NFT mint allowlist.

In essence, Melee on the Meteor offers a glimpse into the future of Wildcard, where the boundaries of gaming are pushed, creating an immersive and thrilling experience that sets the stage for the blockchain's next era in entertainment.
