A “Wild” Season

The Moncton Wildcats “Wild” season is down to its final act, or is it?

Perhaps Dan Lacroix can channel Ben Crenshaw’s heroic 1999 Ryder Cup, “I’ve got a good feeling about this” speech to rally his group.

Which heart and soul Wildcat player is going to rally their teammates and perhaps take one out of Kevin Millar’s playbook and deliver the “Don’t let us win tonight,” speech?

Things were bleak heading into Game 3 for the Cats, but things looked so promising, until they didn’t last night.

If you watched or listened to the game, you know how things played out, you know exactly what happened. The ups and downs of the Cats season have been “wild” to say the least, but there’s a lot of pride and character in that room.

The Wildcats will take to the ice tonight perhaps for the final time as a collective group.

This might be it for the three overagers, their final act in the QMJHL, but you can bet your ass they will play the right way to the very end with the same sense of pride, class, character and dignity that they have displayed throughout their entire careers.

Are the Wildcats going mail it in and implode as a group in perhaps their final act or are they going to leave it all on the ice for each other in Game 4?

Being down 3-0 on the road, on the brink of elimination is clearly not what a lot of people expected, but that’s just how wild this season has been for the Cats.

How did the Philadelphia Flyers win four straight versus the Boston Bruins in 2010?

They did it one game at a time.

Up 3-0 in the series, up 3-0 in Game 7 on home ice and the Bruins still couldn’t get it done.

You know something, I wouldn’t put it past or underestimate the kids in the Wildcats room.

Clearly Ben Crenshaw had a good feeling during the final day of the 1999 Ryder Cup, Kevin Millar was tired of everyone talking about “The Curse,” how good the Yankees were and them being down 3-0.

For the people on the outside looking in the situation surrounding the Moncton Wildcats might appear to be chaotic, perhaps it is, who knows, but there’s a group of kids that if you’re the Sags you don’t want to give them any life.

Can the Wildcats win four straight versus the Sags, well that’s highly unlikely, but can they win one game?

Hell yes. ?

Could they possibly win two straight on the road on the big ice?

It seems unlikely, given all of their tendencies throughout the season and in this series, but you just never know.

What if?

What if the Cats steal Game 4?

What if the Cats find a way to steal two straight and force a Game 6?

All of that shit seems so unlikely, so out of hand, so unimaginable right now, but in the past some teams have climbed that mountain to accomplish the unthinkable.

Are the 2023-2024 Moncton Wildcats one of those teams?

I’m not sure, but the one thing that I am sure about is how tightknit the 2023-2024 Moncton Wildcats really are.

Everyone on that team gets a long, they like each other, they like spending time together on and off the ice, and you know something that’s incredibly rare in this day and age and that right there might be enough to get something going and keep hope and believability alive.

With all of the “wild” shit that the group have experienced this season, those kids never gave up on each other, in spite of all the ups and downs and adversity they have been confronted with, they kept showing up, kept playing the game they love and kept playing for one another and that right there is what makes that group of kids in that room special.

They might get swept tonight, they might win tonight, who the hell knows, but spite is a pretty powerful thing and Wildcats have a lot of it.

The Moncton Wildcats “Wild” season is down to its final act, or is it?
