Wielding Alfredo - The G11 Report 2016
BMW Bedfordview
There’s no need for a fancy introduction to this tale of utter joy and and captivating excitement, but I’m going to right one anyway. Bear with me; It was a beautiful, no, scorching hot day in the mid of the Gauteng summer heatwave, nevertheless in my anticipation for the arrival of our first G11 7 Series demo I could care less. As the subtle 195kW, 620Nm’s of torque beast arrives, the sharp glaze from the sun reflecting off the hood of the Singapore Grey 730d catches my eye(s). It was a love affair at first sight. We were inseparable, well, in the moments that my DP gave me the chance to drive it. I was as amazed and motivated to apply my G11 training and inspire the customers around me by showing off this amazing piece of machinery.
Alfredo’s Journey to BMW Bedfordview
This is the story of young Alfredo Bavarian VI, a model boy from Dingolfing Germany, looking to broaden his horizon’s by visiting the most southern tip on the African continent (the biggest continent in the world #Zuma), South Africa. South Africa boasts some of the most picturesque natural landscapes, pleasant climate conditions, high regarded lush winelands, diverse cultural heritage, and of course a more than vibrant nightlife for all walks of life (CIA, 2016).
Taking the above into regard it comes as no surprise that young Alfredo would want to test his limits on the South African roads and experience a drive like no other. According to SouthAfrica.info (2015), South Africa boasts excellent road infrastructure, great weather and plenty of stunning scenery. Any South African citizen can vouch that only two out of the three above mentioned statements are true, and “excellent” road infrastructure is not one of them. South African roads are of poor quality, full of potholes, hooligan taxi drivers, e-tolls (which most South Africans rebel against and feel are illegal), and finally corrupt policeman.
That is the beauty of South Africa though, it keeps the drive exciting and mysterious, you always have to be alert and concentrated on the drive, Forrest Gump (1994) said, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get, and that’s exactly how South African roads can be explained. Ultimately South African roads are a test, full of obsticles, making it the most challenging and also the best way to assess the abilities and realise the full potential of a motorvehicle.
Alfredo Bavarian VI boasts a 3 liter, 6 cylinder engine achieving a power rating of 195kW and 620Nm of torque. Weighing in at just over 2,4 tons, a staggering 130kg lighter than it’s predecessor, due to BMW EfficientLightweight technology, Carbon Core, consisting of alliminium, highly rigid steel, magnesium and carbon fibre reinforced plastic. The Carbon Core ultimately reduces vehicle weight, lowers CO2 emissions by 25% and increases vehicle stability. Furthermore, Aflredo rarely gets thirsty, with a massive fuel tank capacity of 78 liters it gives you about 830 km of range. During it’s time with BMW Bedfordview Alfredo obtained a fuel consumption ratio of 9.5 l/100km, which is exccellent considering the amount of individuals who drove the stunning machine.
During Alfredo’s time here at Bedfordview it was demo’d more than 120 times, being driven by succesful businessmen, influental individuals in the community, staff, friends, potential clients and offcourse the BMW Bedfordview “7-man”. The “7-man” as we refer to him goes by the name Tony Rosano. Over the years Tony has bought 15 (going on 16) BMW 7-Series models and more than 30 BMW’s from the dealership in total, he has been a client, friend and family member of the Bedfordview team for over a decade. Who better to test out the new 7 than the 7-Series connoisseur himself.
According to Tony his recent experience with the introduction to the new 7 series has truly been an eventful one. Tony further goes on to state that as a fervent BMW 7 series fan, having owned 15 since 2003, he was thoroughly impressed by the launch. According to Tony the vehicle itself is truly an innovation and is not at all an upgrade of the last model but a completely different concept and overall feel. Tony states that it invigorated his desire to own a new seven series again because it is a fresh introduction of driving pleasure at a whole new level (Rosano, 2016)
During Alfredo’s time at the dealership words such as amazing, exciting, out of this world, marvelous and unreal were thrown around as if we (BMW Bedfordview), unveiled the cure to HIV/AIDS #steamingshower. It was a mobile monument and a jaw-dropper to visiting customers, to say the least.
Working at a dealership gives you the privilege of experiencing numerous exciting and powerful machines, but none like the new flagship model that is the G11. It was an exciting journey with young Alfredo and one that none of us here at BMW Bedfordview will easily forget. We wish Alfredo all of the best and thank BMW SA for the honor and privilege to be a part of such an exhilarating vehicle’s life cycle.
Till we meet again Alfredo Bavarian VI…
