What do you do if your boss's decision-making process is hindering your progress?

Person who knows his job will take care of subordinates and mentor them, unfortunately in today’s world many organisations go by the face value and not skills while recruiting leaders, a bad manager can be lethal and kills talent. Although i don’t have any mentor but i was fortunate enough to have few good bosses who helped me in shaping my career.. i am also trying to be one for my subordinates.

As good human being, need to have a first cut of discussion with Boss. Understand the rationale of his behavior. He cam come out with 8 hard points about the candidate, but the silver lining could be 2 good points. Mentally prepare a note of all the red points. Try taking up 2 task with a timeline and show improvements. Revisit boss again with positives, am sure he could be mild this time as you have shown improvements. If he still remains adamant, consider this a indication, he may be not the right fight. Plan your moves, reach out to colleagues and simultaneously involve HR. Sure to get a positive outcome either within the organization or outside.

When I have encountered this issue it is almost always because one, or both, side made assumptions and never talked about it. As a leader it is critical to communicate clearly and well. If your employees accept, but do not understand, your expectations you have not set them correctly. As an employee do not be shy when communicating to your leadership. I have my personal "board of directors" which is made up my mom, closed friends, and colleagues" they help me check my perspective and actively challenge the case I present. Except my mom, her chair on the board is the listening one ??
