Internships Insights:?

This is the article written by one of Women in Big Data India volunteers about her internship journey at JP Morgan Chase & Co.?

From Classroom to Workplace?- An unforgettable internship experience??

Written By : Abhishree Verma?

Hello, dear readers!??

I'm Abhishree, a final year undergraduate student pursuing engineering in Information Technology at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women. I’m here to share with you my experience of spending my summer away from Delhi ki garmi, in Bengaluru interning at JP Morgan Chase & Co. as a software developer intern.

But first, a heartfelt shout-out to “Women in Big Data-India”. They're not just the reason I'm penning down my experiences here, but they've also been a guiding light in my journey. My volunteering experience with them has been transformative. The sense of community, the hands-on learning, and the push to take initiative have all played pivotal roles in shaping me. Through them, I've not only gained a boost in my self-confidence but also grasped the true essence of networking.?

?My time interning at the firm felt like I was on a roller-coaster of self-discovery and growth. As a student, I had this "let's just get this done" attitude. But at the firm, I learned to complete tasks systematically, efficiently, and with a focus on quality. I dived deep into the tools and techniques they used, and it was surreal seeing classroom topics like agile methodologies and SDLC come alive in front of me.?

There's this thing about internships: they push you to look beyond textbooks. While getting work done is essential, it was eye-opening to realize the importance of structure, sticking to best practices, and ensuring top-notch quality at every stage. Instead of merely working, I learned the essence of working smart and putting quality first.?

?When I first stepped into university, I had this rather naive picture of engineering: endless hours spent coding in a drab 9x5 cubicle. But during my internship, that image got a much-needed facelift. I came to understand the business logic behind each line of code, realizing it’s crucial to understand the 'what' and 'why' before tackling the 'how.'?

Outside of the work, there were these small yet memorable moments that made my internship special. Mingling with folks at the top of their game, team lunches, hackathons, and even leisurely activities like carrom, table tennis, and bicycle ride with the late-night badminton matches with seasoned team members were absolute fun! And, of course, my buddies at the firm were my rock, always encouraging me to push my boundaries.?

Finding my way through Bengaluru's infamous traffic and mastering the city's bus routes became an unexpected learning curve, adding a touch of local flavor to my experience. And yes, that's an accomplishment I wear as a badge of honor!?

I also got the chance to meet the amazing team at 'Women in Big Data'. Having interacted with them virtually, seeing everyone face-to-face was like connecting the dots, only way more fun.?

All in all, this internship wasn’t just a line on my resume. It was a mishmash of learning, fun, and countless memories that I'll cherish for a long time.
