Women in Big Data has been lucky to have many male allies to help create?more inclusive spaces. Through advocacy, mentorship, challenging biases, building networks, and collaborating for gender equality, male allies contribute to a more diverse and equitable industry. By recognizing the importance of male allies and actively engaging in these efforts, we can pave the way for a future where women thrive in technology and beyond.?More on this topic in this article. ?We are thankful to so many of our male allies during our journey including Michael Greene, Anjani Phuyal, Itai Yaffe, Neil Metzler, Neil Vidal, Ed Buban, and Arjun Malakar, just to name a few.
WiBD Global Mentoring Update
It’s been a great start for 2023 mentoring

We are coming to the close of the 2023H1 mentoring season—and what a great season it has been. 177 people participated as either a mentor, mentee, or in both roles though the following eight programs:
Canberra Mentoring, a 1:1 program, matched participants to explore career and skill development. Thanks to Pam Hallinan for organizing this effort.
Data Science Olympians, managed by Rupa Gangatirkar and Srabasti Banerjee, with help from Soumya Vinod. This program provided five teams with an opportunity to compete in Kaggle challenges.
Data Science Varsity also offered data science competition opportunities to four teams from the University of Portland or Oregon State University. Thanks to Stuti Patel, Sonali Pagade, Surekha Reddy, Mrinalini Thakur and Rhea Oommen for their leadership.
Emerging Technologists, a globally available program, provided 1:1 mentoring for people with two or less years professional technology experience.
Emerging Technologist Circle - America offered peer group support for those who are exploring technology and data science careers. Thanks to Marina Spence, who co-led with me.
Getting From Here to There, a peer program for those with 10+ years of technology experience, was attended by those who aspire to senior technical management positions.?
Mentor in Tech International is a 1:1 global program for those with 2+ years of technology experience. Thanks to the efforts of Marina Alekseeva and Elena Fedotova for another successful session.

Senior Technologist Circle - EMEA, a new peer program for EMEA senior technologists, was led by Agnieszka Niezgoda and Elena Fedotova.
And that’s not all. 206 people participated in Speed Mentoring events thanks to the organizing efforts of Natalya Suvorva (Armenia), Ekaterina Mironova (Armenia), Sampada Regmi (Nepal), Santoshi Gahatraj (Nepal), Anat Zohar (Bay Area - Zoox and Data Science Society), Tina Tang (Bay Area - Zoox)?and Erika Lunceford (Bay Area - Zoox).
What’s up next? Women in Big Data is running a 1:1 mentoring program available to the global community from June 1 through August 25.
There is still time for any chapter to offer a Speed Mentoring event before August 30, 2023. Finally, it’s not too early to plan programs for Q4 2023. Kindly reach out to [email protected] to discuss future mentoring programs or events.

Chrisha Shrestha has been serving as a committee member of the Women in Big Data Nepal chapter since 2021. She is an active tech member with experience in event planning and management since the organization's inception in Nepal.
Chrisha is also a Software Engineer at Innovative Solution Pvt Ltd. She describes herself as a learner who takes every experience as a chance to grow into a better version of herself. She has experience working in the field of web technology and is intrigued by how data can be used to build decision-making analytics. She believes in continuing to explore new potentials, both personally and professionally, and she aspires to be defined solely by her works.
