Wi-Fi in Havana: Cuba's 'Berlin Wall' is finally coming down
Five hours ago a friend of mine in Havana posted this on Facebook:
"The time is now 10 pm - and a huge number of Cubans have gathered in a particular street in central Havana, where there's now Wi-Fi. It's an incredible spectacle. This feels like the Fall of the Berlin Wall - the atmosphere is just amazing. It's a moment to be recorded in history.
Cubans have been isolated from the rest of the world for 50 years. And now we're all here on the street, connecting to the Internet. Cubans are connecting to the rest of the world for the first time, and we're right in the middle of it. It's deeply moving."
With thanks to Ketti Bueno Ferrer for reporting this.

9 年That Is Great, it's a big step for Cuba. I'm on vacation in Xina, WiFi is almost in all places but Google and Facebook is blocked, it's a pity.

9 年That's a great first step although not all internet services seem to be available yet and you must be a Cuban resident in order to register and access the service. Anyway, shortly I'll be on holidays in Cuba and I'll tell you first-hand, Claus. :-)
