Why You've Already Lost Your Motivation for?2019…

Ahhh, New Year’s resolutions have been in full force these past few weeks leading up to 2019 and now that we’re in the new year.
The roads have been getting busier earlier, the gyms are more packed and people are getting to work earlier than they usually do.
What is it about the new year that provides so much motivation and inspiration to be better? Why can’t we keep this up throughout the entire year?
Well I have some thoughts on this that may be helpful to put it into perspective and ensure you maintain your motivation beyond just the first few weeks of the year…
- People like to do what everyone else does
If everyone’s making New Year’s Resolutions then of course you’re going to want to hop on that bandwagon. People go in the direction of everyone else. Most of us are naturally born as followers not leaders and therefore we wait for others to do something before we do.
2. January 1, 2019
There’s something about this date that starts a clean slate in our minds. To me, it’s funny because it’s really just a Tuesday… just like every other Tuesday in any other week.
Eventually the excitement wears off, the motivation dissipates and we fall into the same mundane routine that we are accustomed to.
So how do we go about fixing this? How can we maintain this beyond the first few weeks? We’ll it’s actually pretty easy — well maybe not easy, but practical. Let’s just examine why someone gets excited about the New Year and try to replicate that.
- People like to do what everyone else is doing
That was the point I made earlier but lets dive deeper. What is actually happening here? What if you could replicate this on a smaller scale for the rest of the year? How about finding 3–5 like minded people that are ready to really crush 2019 and hold each other accountable throughout the year.
Share your goals, have regular and scheduled meet ups or video calls to help each other maintain motivation and stay on track.
It’s as simple as doing what you know works at the beginning of the year but taking a more personalized approach with people that you actually know, like and trust.
2. Take your goals and put together a plan of action
Too many people say:
“I’m gonna be fit!”
“I’m starting my own business!”
“I’m going to make X amount of money!”
“I’m going to travel!”
“I’m going to spend more time with family and friends!”
Yet, after the first few weeks, they forget about these and fall into their same boring routine.
The key is to break down your goals into daily action steps that are 100% in your control. These are things that move you forward personally and professionally as well as moving others forward.
It’s all about taking your macros vision and boiling it down to micro activities.
When you accomplish your daily activities, you maintain your motivation and momentum moving forward. In fact, you gain so much momentum that you start thinking bigger, acting bigger and ultimately achieving more than you had set out to achieve.
So this year, 2019, are you going to actually follow through with what you say you are going to do or are you going to be like 99% of the population and give up? The choice is yours. So what’s it going to be?
Resilience is the Key
