Why you’re struggling to generate business on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great place to build your brand, grow your business and generate a good and steady income to sustain your ideal lifestyle.
The “trick” is in learning how to unlock the power that this platform has to change your life – literally.
If you’ve been on LinkedIn a while and you’re struggling to attract clients and generate business, it’s probably because of one or more of these 5 common reasons.
5 reasons you’re struggling to generate business on LinkedIn
1.?????You think it’s supposed to be easy
When you spend any length of time on the world wide web, it’s easy to start thinking and believing that everyone and their mum is making “six figures in six weeks” and that all they did to get there was apply one or two simple techniques on LinkedIn and voila! the cash started to flow!
If you’ve ever bought into this “hype”, you’re not alone – I’ve been there too.
The downside of over-consuming success stories, whether on the internet or in books, is that you can start to believe that business is supposed to be easy and success – whether on LinkedIn or beyond – is meant to be too.
Let me be the one to tell you that this is not the case. If finding business success on LinkedIn was easy, everyone would be doing it.
Expect the journey to be difficult – that way you can keep on going when you hit your first, second or fifth hurdle in the process.
2.?????You have too many voices in your head
I’m not talking the Eminem kind of voices, but rather, the voices in your head that comes from listening to too many LinkedIn “gurus” and trying to apply all the different (and sometimes conflicting) advice at the same time!
There are many methods to building a successful business on LinkedIn.
Pick a path that resonates with you and a teacher/coach/trainer that you like and stick to their advice.
Work it until it works! (Or die trying! lol – couldn’t resist the 50 Cent reference since we’re talking about Eminem)
3.?????You’re still buying into the old school mindset and method of cold outreach
Here’s an ABC maths question for you:
"How many potential client connection bridges do you need to burn to secure one business “lead” through spammy DM posts pitching your services to uninterested parties?
Answer?
Potentially hundreds!
Okay, that’s my really complicated way of saying that if you’re still using the old school method of sending mass unsolicited cold messages to people’s inboxes on LinkedIn as a way of generating potential clients, you might want to reconsider your ways.
Social selling – via sharing useful content and building relationships with your target audience – is the new black (or whatever colour’s currently in fashion).
If you want to attract clients through LinkedIn, thinking serving, not pitching.

4.?????You’re not in it for the long run
Generating business through LinkedIn is a long-term game – you’ve got to be in it for the long run!
If quick business success is what you’re after, you might as well hang up your boots now and go and find another way to make money (hint – get a job).
But if you are committed to learning all you can about this platform, to showing up consistently and serving your target audience in the process, you will eventually start to generate business from LinkedIn and a good income with it.
How long is eventually? Well, it depends on a lot of things (see my other LinkedIn articles), but if I were you, I’d budget at least six months of executing the right strategy. ?
5.?????You’re trying to save money by DIY-ing
I get it, money is tight right now so you’re holding on to what you have pretty tightly.
You don’t want to spend money on a LinkedIn book; investing on some LinkedIn training is out of the question, and don’t even get me started on hiring an over-priced coach to help you on the journey!
Does this sound about right?
I get it because this used to be my attitude to spending money on my business some years ago (I’m a saver by nature – I liked making money, not spending it).
DIY was my middle name – whatever I needed to learn, I’d find a way to learn it myself without spending a penny, since I was bootstrapping my business.
I thought I was saving money, but it was only years later when I finally started working with a coach (after tons of money mindset work), that I realised that my tight-fisted ways had actually cost me massively in my business.
It cost me in lost time; it cost me in making unnecessary mistakes, and it definitely cost me in missed revenue.
Was it worth it to save a few pounds? Absolutely not (in hindsight)!
Save yourself unnecessary future costs and quit DIY-ing your LinkedIn strategy today.
On that cheery note….
