Why You're Probably Using Google Analytics Wrong

Why You're Probably Using Google Analytics Wrong

I looked at 15 Google Analytics accounts last week.

Want to know something scary?

14 of them were set up incorrectly.

That means these businesses are making decisions based on wrong data.

Yikes.

Let me share the most common mistake I found:

They're tracking EVERYTHING.

And when you track everything, you actually learn nothing.

Here's a real example:

A client was excited because they had 10,000 website visitors last month.

But when we looked closer, we found:

  • 40% were from China (they only sell in the US)
  • 30% were bots
  • 15% bounced in 2 seconds

Real visitor count? About 1,500.

Big difference, right?

Here's what really matters in Analytics:

  • Where your REAL customers come from
  • What they do BEFORE they buy
  • Which pages make them leave

Everything else is just noise.

Think of it like this:

If you're fishing, you don't count how many waves hit your boat.

You count how many fish you catch.

Same with your website.

Don't count random visitors.

Count actions that matter:

  • Contact form fills
  • Product purchases
  • Newsletter signups

Head over to my website where I show you my simple 6-step process for tracking what actually matters.

Let's stop drowning in useless data in 2025!

Note: Explaining Analytics like a normal person because those Google help docs are impossible to understand.
