More marketing isn't always better. If you've ever felt like you’re constantly marketing—posting, launching, creating, engaging—yet somehow still not seeing the results you want, this episode is for you.
It’s easy to believe that the more marketing you do, the more success you’ll have. Post more. Show up more. Sell every day. We’ve heard it all.?
But here’s the hard truth: Doing more marketing doesn’t automatically mean you’ll get more clients, more revenue, or more impact. In fact, over-marketing can actually hurt your business.
If you’re: ? Always creating content but never feeling caught up ? Marketing on every platform but struggling to see traction ? Feeling burned out from constantly launching ? Seeing diminishing returns despite all your effort
Then it’s time to stop doing more and start doing better. In this episode, I’m walking you through the 5 signs you are doing too much marketing—and what to do instead to make your marketing actually work for you.
5 Signs You’re Doing Too Much Marketing (And What To Do Instead)
1. You Feel Like You’re on a Never-Ending Content Treadmill
I hear this all the time. You are exhausted from producing daily Instagram stories, multiple Reels per week, weekly email newsletters, blog posts for SEO, and trying to show up on Threads.
You’re not doing this because you want to—you feel like you have to.
The algorithm demanded it. Other people in your space seemed to be “doing it all.” You’re afraid that slowing down means losing momentum.
But here’s what’s actually happening: ?? You’re creating so much content that you’re not able to step back and see what is actually working. ?? You’re not enjoying it anymore, so it’s harder to connect with your audience. ?? You’re burning out trying to satisfy an algorithm that never stops changing.
You’re trapped in marketing survival mode, churning out content without a clear strategy. That is keeping you so focused on keeping up that you’re not making real connections.
What to do instead: ? Stop prioritizing more content and start prioritizing better content. ? Focus on high-impact messaging that actually moves your audience to action. ? Repurpose and optimize what’s already working instead of constantly reinventing the wheel.
Because your audience doesn’t need more posts. They need more clarity.
2. You’re Marketing Everywhere, But Nothing Is Actually Working
Instagram. Facebook. LinkedIn. Podcast. YouTube. Email. You’re doing all the things, yet somehow… nothing feels like it’s working as well as it should.
I worked with a wellness coach who was convinced that she had to be on Instagram all the time to grow her business. She spent hours (and even hired help!) curating the perfect feed with stunning visuals, writing thoughtful captions, and engaging with followers.?
She would start her mornings scrolling through comments and DMs, making sure to reply to every question. Between client calls, she'd hop back on to check her notifications, liking and commenting on posts from potential clients, past clients, and industry peers—trying to stay top of mind.
During lunch, she’d record a quick Instagram Story, sharing a behind-the-scenes look at her day, maybe a tip about stress management, or a poll asking her audience what kind of content they wanted next. She’d spend time responding to reactions, answering follow-up questions, and sending voice notes to build stronger connections.
It felt like a full-time job—but was it actually moving the needle in her business?
But here’s the problem: ?? Her biggest clients weren’t even coming from Instagram. She was confusing visibility with effectiveness. ?? She felt drained from trying to “do it all” rather than focusing on what she loved most—helping people transform their health. (Her results are incredible!!) ?? When I checked her analytics, we realized her primary sources of traffic were actually: 1.? Her podcast (where she could have deep, meaningful conversations) 2. Celebrity partnerships (which brought in massive credibility and visibility)
So instead of forcing herself to keep up with Instagram, she doubled down on what actually worked.
She focused on:
The result? Less stress, more joy, and way better results.
Don’t get so caught up in marketing trends that you forget about your marketing strategy.
What you can do: ? Identify where your best-fit clients actually hang out and double down on those platforms. Spreading yourself too thin is not serving anybody! ? Look at your analytics—which marketing efforts are actually driving sales? Do more of that. (It sounds so simple. Yet, are you actually doing it? Block the time in your calendar to take a look right now!) ? Give yourself permission to focus on what works instead of feeling pressure to be everywhere.
Because you don’t necessarily need more platforms. You need the right platforms.
3. You’re Burned Out From Constantly Launching
Does your business feel like one never-ending launch cycle? One offer ends, and suddenly, you have to start selling again. It’s exhausting. And honestly? It’s not sustainable.
What’s really happening:
The fix: ? Build a marketing system that sells for you in the background—so you’re not constantly in launch mode. ? Use evergreen content to nurture leads, so they’re ready to buy when the time is right. ? Focus on value-driven marketing instead of just sales-driven marketing.
4. Your Messaging Feels Scattered & Inconsistent
I had another client who came to me frustrated. She was:
She couldn’t understand why her audience wasn’t buying.
When we dug into her marketing, we realized she didn’t even recognize how many offers she was promoting at once.
She was just experimenting to see what stuck…But to her audience, it felt scattered. They didn’t know which offer was right for them. If one week, you’re talking about one thing. The next week, you’ve shifted gears entirely. Your audience is confused. And confused people don’t buy.
What’s really happening:
The fix: ? Pause and get strategic before launching something new. Define your core brand message and make sure every piece of content reinforces it. ? Get super clear on your core offer and make sure your audience understands why it’s the best solution for them. ? Develop a messaging framework so your marketing stays consistent across platforms. When you focus on consistency, your audience will know exactly how and when to buy from you.
Because clarity = conversions.
5. Your Marketing Feels Like Busywork, Not a Strategy
You’re doing so much marketing…
… but when you step back and ask, “Is this actually working?”—you don’t know.
If your marketing feels like a full-time job, but you’re not seeing the ROI, something’s off.
If you’ve invested in courses, templates, and maybe even hired freelance help…but you’re still spending late nights working and stressing over the algorithm. Yet, your revenue doesn’t reflect all the effort you’re putting in. Despite all the engagement, the likes and comments weren’t translating into paying clients. Your inbox was full of “love this!” and “so inspiring,” but not “How can I work with you?”
It’s no wonder you feel drained—constantly doing, but never really gaining.?
What’s really happening:
The fix: ? Set clear marketing goals that actually align with revenue growth. ? Track what’s working and eliminate what’s not. ? Simplify your marketing efforts so you’re only doing what truly matters.
Because marketing isn’t about doing the most—it’s about doing what works.
What to Do Instead: Smarter, Simpler, Values-First Marketing
So how do you fix over-marketing without disappearing altogether? Well, you could hire me to create a marketing system that works for you on 1 hour per month of your time.
Things we would focus on include:
1?? Say more with less. Prioritize high-impact messaging over constant content. 2?? Focus on the right platforms. Stop marketing everywhere and go all in where it counts. 3?? Build a sustainable marketing system. Automate and streamline your strategy so it works for you. 4?? Keep your messaging clear and consistent. Be repetitive. That means you’re crystal clear on the transformation you provide and the people that are best-suited to work with you. 5?? Measure what matters. Track your marketing success based on actual results, not just activity.
Because when you stop doing more and start doing better—your marketing stops feeling like a job and starts working like a system.
Values-First Marketing Wins Every Time

You need: ? Better messaging. ? Stronger strategy. ? A system that works without overworking you.
