Why your website is sending your customers and clients the wrong signal

Why your website is sending your customers and clients the wrong signal

I recently had a meeting with one of my clients at his car yard along Ngong Road. We had a very productive meeting on how we will increase his digital presence and create more awareness on his brand this year. We talked for a while, going through a few strategies and him telling me what his vision was for this year (2025). When I met him, he didn’t believe in the power of digital media, he was very skeptical. But he gave us a shot anyway.? This was after a lot of meetings and of course a well detailed proposal on what we would achieve through our proposed digital campaign. In our contract, we had a probation period clause of a certain time. The clause clearly stated that if it didn’t work we will terminate the contract and part ways with no strings attached. It is now two years after signing our first contract and we still have him as a client.

After our meeting, he was gracious enough to introduce me to another gentleman who I came to know later he was also a business owner and wanted us to enhance his brands awareness through digital media. Here is where things get interesting, my client introduces me to this guy, late forties or maybe early fifties, I couldn’t tell but he fits that age bracket. We shake hands do a quick introduction and I continue with, I’m Bla! Bla! Bla! From Jujaya Media and this is the kind of work we do. I do a nice pitch and I leave a window for him to say something. Interesting, right?

When I finished, he goes like, “You said your company’s name was?” I repeat it, Jujaya Media. Immediately he goes to his phone and looks for us. After a few seconds I hear this from him, “This is a very nice website, user friendly, mobile friendly and nice visualization by the way”.? I smiled and quickly said thanks. Since I know when to talk and not to talk, I quickly realized that this was my time to convince him that this is what you get when you become our client and so much more. To cut the story short we just signed our contract with him for our services for the next one year.

As I was leaving this place, I kept asking myself if what, how and when we craft and build our websites really matters that much to our customers. This question kept arriving to a yes answer every time I convince myself to think or look at it in a different angle. As a person in the media, PR and communication industry, this is obvious to me. But what about that business owner who his/her work is just manufacturing or giving amazing services but has no proper knowledge about the digital space? It will take this person a lot of time just to understand how this works and how it affects his/her business.

So, I came up with this five basic tips that are budget friendly you can use to make sure that your website doesn’t send your customers and clients the wrong signal when they visit it. This tips also give you insights on what to do, say or look for when you are hiring or looking for a web developer.

To ensure your website doesn’t send the wrong signal to visitors and stays budget-friendly, here are five essential tips:

1. Simplify the Design

  • Why it matters

A cluttered or overly complex design can overwhelm visitors and make navigation difficult. A clean and simple layout helps users find what they’re looking for faster and keeps them engaged.

2. Optimize Loading Speed

  • Why it matters

Slow loading times can frustrate users and cause them to leave your site before it fully loads. Fast load times signal that your website is professional and user-focused.

3. Ensure Mobile Responsiveness

  • Why it matters

With many users accessing websites via mobile devices, it’s crucial that your site looks great and functions properly on smartphones and tablets.

4. Improve Navigation

  • Why it matters

A confusing or poorly structured menu can frustrate visitors and increase bounce rates.

5. Update Content Regularly

  • Why it matters

Outdated content can make your site appear unprofessional and may even turn visitors away. Fresh, relevant content helps you stay engaged with your audience and shows that your site is active.
