Why Your TMS is Failing and How to Fix It

Why Your TMS is Failing and How to Fix It

The global transportation management systems (TMS) market is estimated to be around $16-17 billion, underscoring its critical role in modern supply chains. Yet, many companies are grappling with issues that their current TMS solutions fail to address effectively. According to a survey by Indago and JBF Consulting, "Almost three quarters of the survey respondents (71%) are using a TMS, either deployed internally (50%) or provided by their 3PL (21%). Of the respondents using a TMS, half (50%) are either 'Satisfied' (42%) or 'Very Satisfied' (8%) with their solution. However, 29% said they were either 'Dissatisfied' (25%) or 'Very Dissatisfied' (4%) with their TMS."

These statistics highlight a significant dissatisfaction rate, which can be attributed to several pain points:

  1. Communication Breakdowns: Ineffective communication channels between shippers, carriers, and customers lead to delays and misunderstandings.
  2. Delayed Invoicing: Inefficiencies in the invoicing process can disrupt cash flow and financial planning.
  3. Time-Consuming Quoting: Quoting for loads is often a manual, tedious process that eats into valuable time.
  4. Driver Safety and Compliance: Ensuring driver safety and regulatory compliance can be challenging without integrated, real-time monitoring and reporting tools.
  5. Lack of Transparency: A lack of visibility into the supply chain leads to inefficiencies and poor decision-making.
  6. Long-Term Contracts: Long-term contracts with TMS providers can be inflexible and stifling, preventing companies from adapting quickly to changing market conditions.

Given these challenges, what would a perfect TMS look like?

  • Seamless Communication: The ideal TMS would offer robust communication tools, ensuring all stakeholders are on the same page.
  • Efficient Invoicing: Automated invoicing processes would speed up payments and improve financial health.
  • Quick Quoting: Advanced algorithms and built in contracts would facilitate fast, accurate quoting for loads.
  • Safety and Compliance: Integrated safety and compliance features would monitor and report in real-time, ensuring adherence to regulations.
  • Full Transparency: A transparent system providing end-to-end visibility would enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Flexibility: No long-term contracts, allowing companies to scale and adapt as needed.

OGRE's proprietary supply chain management platform embodies these ideals, providing a customizable solution that addresses all these pain points. With no contracts and complete flexibility, OGRE puts control back in your hands.
