Why your Perspective Matters?
This lockdown, has been a blessing in disguise for me – For it helped me unravel a hidden, deep seated interest, that was just waiting to be discovered : Painting.
Painting is not just another hobby for me; but a medium to splash all my thoughts, emotional undercurrents on a white piece of canvas. While the strokes, the hues and the blends add a spectrum of liveliness and colors to the painting, it also pushes me to accept the unacceptable and challenge the conventional and be more flexible and diversify my perspectives.
Now, you will ask how?
I will take one of my paintings as an instance here. The painting above, what do you interpret of it?
A. Most of you would say it is a nice landscape with a shore, hitting waves and a lighthouse afar
B. Some may say it is a view from a sea cave;
C. And numerous such inferences.
When I started to paint, I developed this habit of viewing things from every lens. For the same painting, I interpreted the following:
1. It is comforting to stay at a shore and feel arrived in life, but then are you denying yourself of what lies on the other side of the shore? Are you not comfortable stepping out of your comfort zone? Are you denying yourself the right to reach your true potential by not taking the ride to the other side.
We do this, so often in our personal and professional lives, where with the fear of the unknown, unseen – we don’t progress, we don’t change and we don’t discover new ways of working, don’t build new capabilities.
2. There is always light on the other side of the tunnel – in this case ‘the shore’.
For me, this belief gets re-assured through this painting. This is so relevant in the current context of challenging times, we all have been through. There have been bouts of anxiety, frustration and feelings of now knowing what lies ahead.
Things, certainly are reviving now and will continue to, as we unlock ourselves and get more attuned to the new normal.
The only thing that matters is the belief and as an ardent Harry Potter Fan, in Dumbledore’s words:
‘Happiness/Contentment can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light’
Am sure there would be many other perspectives.
What does this painting stand for you? How do you personify the shore, the waves and the lighthouse?
Quite refreshing and thought provoking during a time of over-flooding of webinars and articles around Covid.

4 年It is very interesting view point by seeing any situation with 2 different mirrors. Someone's perspective matters a lot to show persons reflections n his thoughts. This pandemic n lockdown period has given a lot of population to rethink on their comfort zone and many r coming out by adopting new things, hobbies, culture, work style n many mores but main point is people r exploring themselves to new horizon which were thought earlier as not possible.... Nice interpretation about ur own painting... Keep it up....

4 年It's a very interesting take , it brings to light a very important point, it is empathy - the ability to see things from someone else's point of view. This is what differentiates a great people leader from an average one. You are an amazing people leader and an amazing artist . :) This is a very rare combination. Keep rocking and keep inspiring
