Why Your Pain Is A Good Thing
Where would you even be without pain?
Pain gets a bad rap.
This might be a controversial statement but I wholeheartedly believe in it.
At the end of the day, what even is pain?
First, I should clarify that I’m talking about emotional pain, not physical.
Secondly, pain is just a feeling. It just feels bad, that’s the worst part.
But have you ever tried to just meditate on a pain you’re feeling?
Have you ever tried to identify where in your body this pain manifests?
I’d advise you to try it.
Once you notice where it’s at, accept it instead of fighting it.
Do your best to become comfortable with it.?In other words, look your pain in its “eyes”. Face it.
Once you do, you’ll see it’s not as scary.
It’s just a feeling.
However, even though it’s not so bad, it’s a great thing that your subconscious is very scared of it and tries to avoid it at all costs.
It’s just evolution. We evolved to avoid pain because that is a great strategy to ensure the survival of our species.
Of course it first started with just avoiding physical pain, but emotional pain can be detrimental to survival as well. It can make you lose all motivation to keep fighting for your life and it will kill your drive to keep going.
But since we’re SO driven to avoid pain, that means pain is the ultimate fuel.
If you were to talk to 100 highly successful individuals, I’d bet that at least 80% of them became successful because pain was driving them to become successful.
Maybe they grew up poor and saw their parents suffering and that gave them the drive they needed. Or maybe someone broke their heart and they wanted to show them all they could achieve.
Whatever it may have been the origin of their pain, I’m sure if you asked them all, most would be grateful to have gone through such pain.
The bigger the pain you feel, the stronger your drive will be.
Now, I’m not saying you should purposefully seek pain to find motivation for your goals.
I’m just saying, if you go through a painful moment in your life, try to think of your future self. Try to ask that future self if it’s possible that they are grateful to have gone through the pain you’re going through right now. Try to ask them what this pain might have ended up teaching you in the future.
Just ponder on this.
Use this new perspective to not blow the pain out of proportion.
I’m a good example of this myself.
I was spoiled as a kid, and so I lacked the drive to achieve anything. I’ve always had the ambition, but never the work ethic.
That was until I met true emotional pain.
It was my rock bottom.
After that, I spent a lot of time wallowing in my own misery. But I took waaaay too long with that.
I wish I could’ve read an article like this back then.
Back then, the pain just felt like hopelessness.
I had no idea this pain was giving me a wonderful gift:?purpose in life.
I am now the future version who can say “I am most definitely grateful for having gone through that painful period of my life. Thanks to that, I am in a much better place than I ever would’ve been if I hadn’t gone through that”.
It’s like David Goggins once said. Everything bad that has ever happened to you is basically God/the universe/life giving you?superpowers.
Enjoy those superpowers and take advantage of them.
Naturally, the process of acquiring the superpowers isn’t a pleasant one.
But in the end, it will have been worth it.
Never stop hustling & never stop dreaming,
